Now we "Shoot and Kill" people trying to get OUT of the U.S.???

I'm sorry but the following story is just plain crazy.
Maybe I am missing something but as you read it, please tell me if you feel that shooting and killing this guy was justified.I do not think it was.

The paragraph that really threw me for a loop was the following one which I am quoting here before the link to the rest of the story...courtesy of CNN:

"A motorist said that a federal agent rapped on the vehicle's window with his baton, but the driver accelerated and the agent opened fire."

What the heck??? So first we want to protect the boarder so illigal aliens can not get in...but when they want to get out, we shoot and kill the drivers????

Maybe we should equip our federal officers who are securing our borders with the same kind of technology we are equipping our forces with in Iraq such as this nifty little "Blinding Laser Device" that I read about a few mintues ago. They say it is non leathal and doesn't permantly blind people..though they don't seem to know how long the "incapacitiating effect" lasts:
