Ok so my hero Russ Feingold has just made his views on this very intense national subject heard....loud and clear.....
Click on link below for the article that gives some background on the latest possible movement for Gay Rights in Wisconsin:

(From the 5-7-06 online edition of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Online Edition)
If Wisconsin can be the state that ushers in an amendment to make sure that all couples no matter what sexual orientation that they may be can be legally wed, then maybe this "proving ground" called Wisconsin will have far reaching positive effects for "Gay Rights" in other states of our union.
Though I do not personally know any same sex couples who want to marry each other, I am sure there are a few of my friends that would take advantage of this union if it were deemed legal in Wisconsin.
And for all those conservative NEOCONS who espouse "family values" and such "Jerry farewell-Fred Phelps" idiotic logic......I say look in your own closets and under your own stairs and maybe even in your own bedrooms before you go "casting stones" at same sex couples.
I cant tell you how many times I have been to gay bars and or places that gay men tend to gather and there right in the middle of all of those "queers" are "happily married" men who just want one thing.....And it is not the "person who can FRY IT UP IN THE PAN SO SHE CAN PROVE HE IS A MAN"......get my drift folks???
Guess what??
Gay men and women are everywhere and even if you do not see them every day carrying their rainbow flags or sasshaying down the aisle of the grocery store....they are all around all of us.
And they are here to stay.
Some of these people do not want to be brought out into the public light...Do you blame them when you hear about the rotten things that we humans do to other humans even in this 21st century of our planet??
Who and where are these people??
-Some of them are men that are married to women (I know several that I work with).
-Some of them are women that are married to men (I know a few of those couples).
-Some of them are two men or two women who may be your next door neighbors in that fancy new subdivision that you live in.
-Some of them are executives of very profitable companies that you deal with every day.
-Some of them are your local ministers and priests of your church that you belong to.
-Some of them are the teachers of your children.
-Some of them may be the parents of your children's best friends.
-Some may be the movie and tv stars that you croon over day in and day out....(hello MI-3....!)
-Some of them may be your local politician that you talk to and depend on for all your governmental needs.
-One may even be your "Commander in Chief" of the country you call home......
In any event, same sex couples WILL eventually have the same rights as those of the opposite sex. It wont be too long before the "biblical hoopla" will be taken out of the picture and the "Coalition for Family Values" and all those organizations that spew hate and rhetoric across the board will also eventually fall by the wayside.
It may not be today or even tomorrow....but change will happen as it is in Europe and already has in Canada.
I feel and hope that this day will yet come in my lifetime. (That leaves about 40 years if I plan on living to 80!!)
Which reminds me about an email I received a few months ago which I thought was kind of cute.
I am reprinting it here in it's entirety because I think it fits at this point......

Four friends, who hadn't seen each other in 30 years, were reunited at a party. After several drinks, one of the men had to use the rest room. Those who remained started talking about their kids.
The first guy said, "My son is my pride and joy. He started working at a successful company at the bottom of the barrel. He studied Economics and Business Administration and soon began to climb the corporate ladder and now he's the president of the company. He became so rich that he gave his best friend a top-of-the-line Mercedes for his birthday."
The second guy said, "Darn, that's terrific! My son is also my pride and joy. He started working for a big airline, and then went to flight school to become a pilot. Eventually he became a partner in the company. Now he owns the majority of its assets. He's so rich that he gave his best friend a brand new jet for his birthday."
The third man said: "Well, that's terrific! My son studied at the best universities and became an engineer. Then he started his own construction company and is now a multimillionaire. He also gave away something very nice and expensive to his best friend for his birthday: a 30,000 square foot mansion."
The three friends congratulated each other just as the fourth returned from the restroom and asked: "What are all the congratulations for?"
One of the three said: "We were talking about the pride we feel for the successes of our sons. What about your son?"
The fourth man replied: "My son is gay and makes a living dancing as a stripper at a nightclub."
The three friends said: "What a shame...what a disappointment."
The fourth man replied: "No, I'm not ashamed. He's my son and I love him.He hasn't done too bad either. His birthday was two weeks ago, and he received a beautiful 30,000 square foot mansion, a brand new jet, and a top-of-the-line Mercedes from his three boyfriends."

I could go on and on but I think everyone gets the picture.
As "Fred Rogers" once said....."Won't you be my neighbor?" (and we won't talk about Fred's sexual orientation here....at least not in this post).
Some final thoughts of mine on this subject before I go to sleep for the night.....
Tolerance is something that must happen in order for civilization to expand and succeed in our world of today.
One does not have to be "accepting" of gay marriage just as I may not be "accepting" of "Straight Marriage" but I do tolerate it.
We are living in the 21st century and as such we must move forward and as Russ says...some of these ideas go contrary to the very fabric of what some of us were taught to believe on what is right and what is wrong.
But there is and has been a "paradigm shift" of sorts going on for many years now and though it took a bit of a back track over the last few years, momentum is gaining slowly but surly for what I feel is a positive move forward for all of humanity.
Warm Regards for a good Monday to all.
