Windows Vista: Get Ready

Windows Vista: The OS that has been a long time in the making.....

Microsoft has put up a new site where one can poke around and get to know this little (not very little by any means) new operating system that will hopefully be on store shelves by Jan. of 2007.

The site will test your current system and let you know if your hardware is up to snuff (which a lot of people are wondering about) and it will recommend which version to buy once the OS is out and ready to roar....

This preview page may just mean that the RTC (release to manufacturing) date might be closer than even Microsoft had hoped.

For an OS (operating system) that has been in the works for over five years or even before, I sure hope that Redmond manages to make this OS one that will have all sorts of bells and whistles as well as being robust and fast.

I am waiting to get my next computer until Vista ships and at that time I may retire "old faithful"...my laptop which has been with me through thick and thin since just after XP came out.

For the heck of it though, I decided to run the "Upgrade Advisor" to see how "ready" my current laptop would be if I decided to put Vista on to it. And according to the final report, I am able to "enjoy" the "core user experience" of the new operating system as you can clearly see from the image of my desktop that I captured (click on picture above for a close up view of the report from my laptop)

Europe reels from knife violence - May 31, 2006

People going crazy and stabbing each other to death all over Europe....what is going on in this crazy world of ours?

The stories that really set the hair on my skin twinging were the paragraphs below (from the CNN story which I have linked to farther down the post)....

In Berlin on Saturday, a knife-wielding teenager ran amok among people attending celebrations to mark the opening of a new railway station. Some 28 people were injured in the incident.

A 19-year-old student was also killed with a knife on a cross-country train on Sunday

And you thought things in your neck of the woods was bad!!!

Memorial Day 2006

What is Memorial Day all about anyway??
Many people think of this day in many different ways.

When I was a kid, it was a time to visit our grandparent's and my brother's resting place in the cemetarys where they were laying in eternal peace.
It was also a day to travel out to our little county lake to have a picnic. My parents would pack up the car and we would head out to Lake Wazeecha just outisde of town or sometimes we would take a trip out to the family farm in Plover, Wisconsin to visit my other set of grandparents and sometimes some of our other relatives who might be out there visiting also.

For many, this day probably holds some of the same memories, for many others it is a much more somber day as there have been so many souls lost in the many years of war that we have been going through over the course of the last few years.
And for others it was a day of death and fear, as relayed in the next few stories:

Closer to home, the Metro Milwaukee area witnessed numerous (28+) deaths in various shootings throughout the weekend. The most in a 3 day weekend in a long time. The article below from the Milwaukee Journal Online tells of a "massacre" at a lakeside park that I have visited many times in the past. How aweful that must have been....
http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=429290

......and scores of other shootings around the Metro area as well.
What is going on in the world? You would think that Milwaukee is a "Little Bagdahd" or something from reading the above story.

Speaking of Bagdahd.....Over in Iraq, which is where most of our troops are now located, there seems to have been a horrible accident that has claimed the lives of some veteran journalists and seriously wounded one reporter:

A CBS News corrospondant is in critical condition and her camera man and sound man were killed after a run in with a bomb in Iraq while they were covering Memorial Day stuff in Iraq:
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/J/JOURNALISTS_KILLED?SITE=WIMIL&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

I remember seeing the woman who was killed (pictured here in this post) on a few news episodes on tv. Kimberly Dozier is in critical condition after stepping out of her vehicle and being too close to a car that had a bomb in it that then went off. The blast killed her traveling mates, who were both veteran news people.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I spent my Memorial Day working and remembering my mother who passed away back in the beginning of 1999.
I hope that the scores of my friends and family had a nice weekend.

Like to Read?? It May be in your Genes!!

I have always loved to read (and write).

So when I came upon this article (which I have reprinted in it's entirety from Unknowncountry.com) I was delighted to finally realize that even though my parents (nor any of my siblings) were not big avid readers, there might be an underlying reason why I turned out to be.

I remember laying in bed at night not wanting to go to bed until I had finished reading as many chapters as I could before finally exhausting myself to sleep.

Summer brought even more reading pleasures under the big maple trees in front of the yard or sometimes I would bike down to the railroad tracks at the end of the street and sit on the rails between trains coming through, book in hand, ready to discover the next big adventure that someone might living through the pages of all of those books.

I know have so many books (though not as many as I would like) and a lot of them have not even been opened yet...but I have plenty of reading material for many rainy days ahead.

The following study may shed some light on why I like reading so much.....

Read on:
___________________________________________________________________
Scientists have discovered that, like so many other things, the enjoyment of reading is in your DNA.

Researcher Phillip Dale says, "Children don't come into this world as clay to be molded. They do have their own interests because there is a genetic component" and "It is often more than one gene that determines the interests a child will learn toward." It's the old nature-versus-nurture controversy. School teachers all say that in their experience, children who are read to by their parents—and who see their parents reading— are much more likely to pick up a book.

Like so many other DNA studies, this one was done by interviewing twins—more than 6,000 of them in this case, all of whom are between 8 and 10 years old.

The current study found that both environment and genes account for whether a child will become an avid reader and listener to books, even as a preschooler. Dale wants to reassure parents who often work hard to bring literacy to their children and feel like they have failed if the children have less interest in reading than the they had hoped they would.

He says, "Environment tends to act as the specialist. Reading to children can increase their interest in books but because of the genetic factor, they may never take to the love of books that a parent may have no matter how hard a parent tries to teach it."

Since we are all unique genetically (except for identical twins), this explains why so many families contain a bookworm, even when nobody else in the family reads.

I Want this Job (Being the President's Personal Assistant)....

Not really though....

But one has to admit that having the honor of making the "king" his "peanut butter and jelly sandwiches" and giving him mints and carrying his speeches, and sitting his dogs (after having boned his daughter through high school), makes for a pretty dam good life.
And rumor has it that this 25 year old gets paid $70,000 a year to do all of this!!

And now, though being a college dropout, he gets into Harvard Business School, mainly through his White House connections.
Must be nice to have the "Silver Spoon" in one's mouth.
And yes, other than being Bush's "gopher", I am a bit jealous.

Read on for the adventures of one "Blake Gottesman" who has to have one of the coolest jobs in Amerika. Imagine being personal assistant to his majesty..... "Now Blake-You take good care of Miss Beasly (or is it Barney) till I get back from my little plane trip back to the ranch" says George, as he leaves one of the critter's with his loyal lackey.

Our "Idiotic" Senate confirms Michael Hayden as CIA chief

I can not believe that our government has decided to give the military yet even more power over the intelligence gathering capabilities of it's operations.

This man will surly usher in an era of "spying on it's citizens" such as the world has never seen. And we all thought the KGB and the Gestapo of Nazi Germany was horrific.

Some of the things this man has said it relation to the ongoing "spying controversy" in the U.S. make me wonder if anyone in a position of authority is really listening.
Wake up people. We have a man here who believes that a person's privacy means "diddly squat" in the larger scheme of things.

So much for the constitution and the Bill of Rights.
The "Police State" has now officially (if before unofficialy) begun in Amerika.

I beg anyone who cares about the future of the world and how things will start to unfold to pick up a copy of "1984" and read it.
Things will be much clearer as to where we are headed after you read this errie "prophetic" novel. Fiction is what this book is made out to be.....but I think it was just a "peak" at was to come and is now here.

At least there were some members of our senate who dissented and voted a resounding "NO" to this lawless 4-star general who doesn't seem to care about the constitution or any other legal protection that has been set in stone by our founders.
The names are the names of all of the people who I generally admire in our troubled government of today.....here is the roll call of those who voted not to let this military dufus run the CIA and my hero and I think one of our hopes for a brighter future, Russ Fiengold was one of the biggies who also had quite a bit to say as noted later in the part of the missive I have copied from another blog:

Voting against Hayden's nomination were Democrats Evan Bayh of Indiana, Maria Cantwell of Washington, Hillary Clinton of New York, Mark Dayton of Minnesota, Chris Dodd of Connecticut, Byron Dorgan of North Dakota, Dick Durbin and Barack Obama of Illinois, Russ Feingold of Wisconsin, Tom Harkin of Iowa, Ted Kennedy and John Kerry of Massachusetts, Bob Menendez of New Jersey and Ron Wyden of Oregon.

Intriguingly, the dissident Democrats were joined in their opposition to Hayden by Senate Judiciary Committee chair Arlen Specter, R-Pennsylvania, who has been increasingly restive regarding the administration's assault on basic freedoms.

Predictably, the Senate's most diligent critic of the administration's reckless disregard for the rule of law was the most outspoken objector to Hayden's nomination.

"I voted against the nomination of General Michael Hayden to be Director of the CIA because I am not convinced that the nominee respects the rule of law and Congress's oversight responsibilities," explained Wisconsin Democrat Russ Feingold, who bluntly declared that, "as Director of the NSA, General Hayden directed an illegal program that put Americans on American soil under surveillance without the legally required approval of a judge."

"Our country needs a CIA Director who is committed to fighting terrorism aggressively without breaking the law or infringing on the rights of Americans. General Hayden's role in implementing and publicly defending the warrantless surveillance program does not give me confidence that he is capable of fulfilling this important responsibility," explained Feingold, who cast one of the three dissenting votes when the Hayden nomination was considered by the intelligence committee.

Noting that Hayden had failed in his testimony before the Intelligence Committee to express any reservations about the administration past misdeeds, that the general had evidenced little respect for congressional oversight and that he gave misleading testimony to the Intelligence Committee in 2002, Feingold concluded that,
"The stakes are high. Al Qaeda and its affiliates seek to destroy us. We must fight back and we must join this fight together, as a nation. But when Administration officials ignore the law and ignore the other branches of government, it distracts us from fighting our enemies.
I am disappointed that the President decided to make such a controversial nomination at this time.
While I defer to Presidents in considering nominations to positions in the executive branch, I cannot vote for a nominee whose conduct raises such troubling questions about his adherence to the rule of law."

Read the rest of the above post from the author of a blog called "The Online Beat" that is featured on the website called "Thenation.com" by clicking on the link below.
He has titled his post "Hayden Hijinks".
I think that it is very appropriate:

Cloaking Technology Coming Closer to Science Fact

The future can sure be cool, esp. when a lot of the future is happening right now before our very eyes.
When I was a kid and I read all those cool "sci.fi" books and magazines, I was (in my imagination) taken to great new worlds and fantastic outer space adventures....now it seems one doesn't even have to read "sci.fi" any more as the things that were mentioned in these fantastic tales are already happening.

I am a science fiction aficionado and as such, everytime I hear or read about something from the realm of science fiction coming into the realm of science fact I think to myself what a cool world we really do live in right now.

For instance, look at the photos to the right. They were taken from a prototype of a new passenger airplane that is currently in production for Boeing. Tell me if the interiors of the cockpit do not remind you of a futuristic starship such as those portrayed in the "Startrek Movie and TV shows"......

The latest article I would like to mention talks about the "cloaking" phenomenon that is used in many of the "Startrek" tv shows and movies. The klingons could make their ships "disappear" by cloaking them with some sort of shield....which made them invisible to the human eye and to instruments that might otherwise be able to detect their presence.

Now some physicists have actually thought of a means to do this.
Read on for the whole story, courtesy of NewScientest.com:
http://www.newscientisttech.com/article/dn9227-physicists-draw-up-plans-for-real-cloaking-device.html

All I can say is how long before they will be able to "beam" us from one location to another?
Some in the conspiracy circles say that it is already possible and is being done secretly without the knowledge of the average human being. I wouldn't doubt it.
There are probably hundreds of technologies which we are dabbling with but that the people who are working on do not want to "let out of the bag" yet.....or ever.

Madonna Still at it after all these years...

And doesn't she look good?

Her latest quote....relating to the photo to the right...

“I don't think Jesus would be mad at me and the message I'm trying to send”
— Madonna
On the controversy surrounding her new "Confessions" tour, in which she hangs from a 'disco-fied' crucifix.

I have to hand it to the "Material Girl". She is like the energizer bunny...she just keeps on going.

And though others may disagree, I think she is a pretty good actress as well. I have seen all of her movies and I have enjoyed each and every one of them.

I saw her in concert way back when she was just starting out and she was on top right at the start and she is still on top.

Talk about "staying power"!!!

Al Gore...The "Come-Back" Kid

So Al Gore lost the 2000 election due to some serious vote stealing and underhanded ploys by the republican party.

It is looking like 2008 may finally be his time to shine once again.
People are commenting favorably on his new documentary movie about the enviroment (click on link below for more on this):
http://www.climatecrisis.net/aboutthefilm/

And quite a few stories and articles I have come across have been mentioning the possibility that he may have a good chance at grabbing the presidency in 2008, should he decide to run.

There is also talk that if he chose Hilary Clinton as his running mate that this twosome would surly be a "shoe-in" to lead our nation out of the mess that the current leader has gotten us into.

I almost had the chance to meet him a few years ago in Milwaukee while he was here for a speech, but I had to work.

Read Anderson Cooper's blog post on the latest on Mr. Gore.
Some are saying he could be the next "come back kid" such as Nixon was when he was in and then out and then back in leading our nation. And yes, we all know that things did not end well for Nixon. I think that is because he surrounded himself with some pretty stupid and ignorant people in his administration.
I do not think Gore would make the same mistakes.

Affluent buyers losing homes

I am sorry but I just have to laugh when I read articles like the one below.

Here I am eeking out a living and pretty much subsiding from paycheck to paycheck and then there are all these folks with their gargantuan palaces and pleasure craft sitting out in their "back fourty" acearage....

I often wonder when driving down the many country roads around my part of the state and I see these mamouth houses (like the one pictured with this post) and I wonder how in the heck these people are paying for these little castles.

Well.... I guess sometimes they are not.
This story sheds a bit more light on that for me.

I will stay with my little "cave" that I call home for now. It may be about as big as some of these bigger home's living rooms....but it is just fine for me. And I CAN afford it.

Major Power Failure Stalls Amtrak Service in Northeast Thursday Morning

No AC-No Lights-Stuck in Tunnels and in Little Tuna Cans

I know "firsthand" how some of these people must have been feeling after a "power failure" of unknown origin stalled numerous Amtrak and other commuter trains in the Northeast Corridor of the East Coast this morning.

The disruption in power resulted in thousands of people having to wait in sweltering heat in the train cars with no light or AC. And as the story below says, some passengers on the one train that was stuck below the "Hudson River" in NYC were escorted off the train and walked a mile along the tracks to the nearest station. That must have been scary.

A few quotes from a few of the passengers on some of these trains:
At about 11:30 a.m., a NJ Transit train pulled into Penn Station after being stuck, about 100 yards from the station, for more than 3 hours.
One passenger, Gerry Zaffarese, 55, of Washingtonville, NY, said that for most of the delay passengers sat in cars that had no lights and no air conditioning.

"It's been an awful day," he said."We no sooner entered the tunnel than even us non-engineers noticed we were coasting, the air conditioning had gone off and something was very wrong," said Jeff Oppenheim, a New York actor and director on his way to Washington D.C.

"The rumor was that we were going to have to crawl out under the train." Joe Piasecki of Washington Crossing, Pa. was among 100 passengers who climbed down out of a stalled train near Elizabeth, N.J. to walk nearly a mile to the nearest station."It's a kind of eerie, end-of-the-world feel," said Piasecki, who boarded the train in Trenton.

"You have these two trains sitting here dead, not moving. You can't see any cars or anything else moving. It's like the world died." He said of the 100 who got off the train, 20 to 30 were walking along the track bed toward the north Elizabeth station. The others were still milling around on the tracks, while many others remained on the train, where air conditioning had failed hours earlier and toilets were backing up.

......Last spring on the way back from California, I was on the "California Zephyr" and we lost power just after leaving Denver, CO. and sat there on the tracks in the middle of nowhere without lights or AC or power of any sort for over two hours. We could not leave the train and people were getting irritable, the toilets started backing up and the smell of all the body heat (and some people's body odor) started to get a little overwhelming. I just spread out across one of the seats in the observation car and napped while trying not to listen to all the people around me bitching about "not ever taking a train again"...ect. At one point I blurted out to a guy that he was lucky he wasn't on a plane when something like this happened!!!"...ha ha.

Oh well, I am sure that with the level of kindness and social skills that New Yorkers and other East Coast human beings possess that everyone just stayed calm cool and collected and tried to help their fellow passengers (the preceding sentence was a joke by the way).

I still plan on making the Amtrak Trains my preferred method of travel this year when I take a few of my vacations. There is nothing sweeter then the views out your window while reading a biook or watching a movie on the laptop and being lulled into a nap by the constant "click click click" of the tracks below the car as it is moving along the tracks.

World leaders welcome new Iraqi government

The "Unity Government"....

What a name for Iraq's "first" constitutionaly elected government.
How much "unity" is there when there still hundreds of people being killed every day, most of the nation's military forces are still fully entrenched in combat mode in their country and the "middle class" of Iraqi citizens are so fearful for their lives that a lot of them are trying to leave Iraq?

Dosen't sound very unified to me.
But then again I am not a government politician so what do I know??

A link to a CNN story where world leaders talk about the positive things going on in Iraq. From what I read in the missive, I do not feel all that positive for the future of this government.

And who are we kidding anyway?
Everyone knows who the real government is in Iraq.
Amerika....

CNN.com - World leaders welcome new Iraqi government - May 20, 2006

My thought (or at least one of them for today) on this is that things over in ancient Summeria will get much much worse before they get better....if they get better. And does anyone really believe that the Iraqi people are actually in charge of this new government. I remain cautous about the whole thing. As I heard one high level government pol. say the other day..."For every two steps forward, they seem to take two steps backwards".

Have a good day.

Another Reason to stay away from the Yahoo Crap

I have SBC as my internet provider for my DSL connection and though my phone company (which is actually the New AT & T) is pretty good, they are paired up with Yahoo and so my service is "co-branded" and there are a lot of options to install Yahoo software.

But I learned long ago that Yahoo has a way of hiding very strange things in their software and this they have been doing for a long time. Our computer at work became infected with some nasty Yahoo based software a few months ago and it took me an entire afternoon to get the crap off that computer.

So I do not touch any of the Yahoo stuff that is out there.
And for good reason.

Now it seems that the instant message client has become infected with some very nasty spyware and adware that totally hijacks the internet settings of a person's computer.
I have warned people about this stuff before and I am doing it again now.

I repeat....STAY AWAY FROM YAHOO SOFTWARE AT ALL COSTS...or have a fun time getting the crap off your system.

And no..I will not help people with this stuff.

Arrg.....

A Republican Senator from NY has nominated me for a "National Leadership Award"!

This has to be one of the strangest posts that I will ever blog.
And why is that may anyone ask??

Well I just got home after a long day of work and there is a message on my answering machine.
And honest to god this is all true so help me God.....

PS: The picture of the award is not mine...it is a representation of the award that I have just been honored with. Read on.....

The call goes like this:
"Ok this call is for John (insert my last name here). My name is Kathy Sore and I am with Congressmen Tom Reynolds with the National Republican Congressional committee in Washington. We would like to recongnise you with our "National Leadership Award" and I need to speak to you about a press release we want to send out to you. Again my name is Kathy Sore and my number is 1-866-338-8289. Please call me as soon as you get this message. Thank you."

WTF??? Ok so here I am supposedly being "honored" with a "National Leadership Award from a republican??
Well first off I am not republican by any meaning of the word unless you consider that I live in a republic.
Second....I tend to consider myself pretty liberal and though I may not be a registered member of the democratic party (or any party for that matter), I do lean more towards the Democrats causes and I really dig my hero Russ Feingold as well as Lady Hillary Clinton.

Third....I cant quite remember when I have done anything to merit a "National Leadership Award" unless someone counts my undying devotion to my job (which is one of the most important things in my life)....but I do not think that my job counts when your looking at what this phone call is apparently offering.

Fourth...maybe someone caught my antics at Battery Park this last November when I was in NYC?
I did cause quite a stir when I refused to take off my baseball cap or belt to get onto the boat to tour the statue of liberty. I chided the entire security force that was underneath the tent and said some pretty intense things about how New Yorkers need to learn how to treat their guests....and making them strip half naked is not a good way to do that. Nahh....

What else could this be all about??
So then I was beginning to think it was a joke that maybe one of my NEOCON friends at work may be playing on me, but even that is pretty far fetched and I don't think that their connections go as deep as a congressmen from NY.

Ok so time to google Congressmen Reynolds
http://www.house.gov/reynolds/
and nothing there that I could see except some basic info about him, some going-ons in his world and so it was on to the "Republican Congressional committee"
http://nrcc.org/
and a few tidbits of info but nothing that stood out, except on the far right side, a button to click to RSVP for a "Presidential Dinner" on June 19th (see picture at the top of this post), which I so wanted to click just to see where that would take me (but I didn't) and then I decided to google this "National Leadership Award" that I had been given.

From just this one site I found out pretty much everything I wanted to know.
http://aggressive-voice.com/zz532.html

And this site has numerous messages posted from other souls, who like me, have been nominated for this "prestigious" award....ha ha.
http://jim-frizzell.com/national_republican_congressiona.htm

I am so tempted to call this lady on tuesday and see how far I can go, just as the guy who wrote about his experience in the above linked post did.
I can not believe that the Republican party will stoop so low to get campaign cash and I am finding this whole thing so laughable that I am emailing all of my email contacts to let them know of what just happened to me.

And what is also very strange is the fact, that like the guy's post above, my phone number is also unlisted and I do not put it out there anywhere for people to grab. How in the heck did these republicans get a hold of my number????

Well at least the mystery is solved but as I am writing this I keep going back to the answering machine and replay that message.
For anyone who wants to listen to it themselves, you are more than welcome to. Just call Kathy Sore at 1-866-338-8289 and tell her you are a friend of the "latest National Leadership Award Winner". Maybe she will give you my number.
I will be waiting to hear from you....

And the more I think about it the more I really want to call that number. I could really use a picture of Georgie. I can then matt it in a very pretty frame and give it to my boss for his birthday!!! But don't tell him...I want it to be a surprise.
And maybe there is the possibility that I would get invited to that annual dinner with King George in June.
Hey I just realized that I am on vacation during that time and I have wanted to take a little trip back to Washington for a while now to dig into some of the more sinister "Masonry" side of ancient Washington. Hmm.....

A good day to all.
Time to sleep as it is already 5:30AM and I have been up all night.
But I have to close with "What a way to end my day. Being a recipient of such an honor".

How much lower will the republican party go until they "bury themselves"? My answer is probably pretty darn soon if they keep this shit up.

Did humans and chimps once interbreed?

David Reich, a population geneticist at the Broad Institute and Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has come up with an interesting theory that may further explain the similarities of Chimps to Humans and how our DNA is so close and he comes up with a hypothosis that (and do not laugh) humans and chimps may have once interbred way back when on the path to evolution.

Fireman: "bomb in the building start clearing out"

There is a clip from the CameraPlanet 9/11 Archive floating around.

A firefighter at ground zero clearly says that the building must be cleared because there is a bomb inside. This adds to the weight of testimony from firefighters that bombs were evident in the WTC.

I can not verify that this clip is from the 911 site but it sure looks like it to me after having watched the little video.

Ok so some may say I can be a "conspiracy theorist" and at times I have been and I think there are a lot of things that our governments are not telling us.

And I have blogged about the "Mark of the Beast and 666" and the technology that is talked about in the following link. But I decided to google the word "Mondex" after recieving a power point presentation via email from a friend.

I thought it might be wise to show both sides of this company via a few different links. The first being a post from an "urban legends" site that tries to either "debunk" or make true some of the things that are being spread on the net these days.
So...first is a link to one of those sites that tries to debunk the power point slide that I am sure a lot of people have seen.
And then there is the web link to the "Mondex" corporation itself.

I will let people make their own decsions based upon what they read and wish to read into all of this.
I just wanted to pass on some information that I am sure others could very well find on their own if they wished to.

Parents are new class of bullies-The "Hover" Generation

It is so funny when I see a story after having discussed similar circumstances with others just before hand, as with the following article from the JSOnline.com web site that I have linked to below.

Saturday night at work, I was talking with a table that was dining in my restaurant and we were discussing the current state of parenting.
What brought that discussion into play?

I was talking to them about a "phenomenon" that I have been witnessing the last few years in relation to the yearly "prom evening" here in Racine. The lady had asked why we didn't have any prom kids dining with us last night.

I replied that I had heard a lot of the parents were actually "cooking meals" at home for their kids and their respective dates, instead of these kids going out and whooping it up at a nice expensive restaurant. I told her I couldn't figure out why this was happening other than that money has become a bit tight and maybe they just wanted to save a few $$ as prom itself has become very expensive.

She came back with the idea that she thought a lot of it has to do with what is starting to be called "The Hover Generation" and what some are calling the "Helicopter Generation".
That being parents being so overly involved in the day to day happenings of their children that in essence they are "hovering" over their kids and are involved in almost every single aspect of their lives.
The discussion we had was very interesting and though I am not a parent, I started learning quite a bit about this new mindset that many parents must be living with in this early part of the 21st century.

I know things have changed from when I was a teenager back in the early 80s but it seems that today, parents are so heavily involved in every aspect of their children's upbringing and day to day activities that frankly is so totally opposite of what I (and most of the kids of my generation) went through.

And I mentioned that because of all of this "interaction" and what I would almost call "smothering" of their kids, that these young people are not being taught how to deal with the real world in a manner that will lead them to think for themselves.
I surly feel that all of this "over parenting" is creating a negative "work ethic" in the youth of today and that I have witnessed myself.
I seriously feel that the youth of today do not have enough "autonomy" in trying to figure things out for themselves because of all the interaction and parental deciding that is going on.

And that I am afraid does not bode well for their futures. If they are so spoiled and they depend on their parents to make all their decisions for them, how do we expect them to be productive members of society. With parents fighting their kid's battles...as you will see is happening more and more from reading the following article...I don't think that our youth are being prepared for the big ugly world that is lurking out there right around the corner.

I and most of my friends did a lot of our planning on our own and we had teachers who helped guide and mold us.....our parents were still there but once we were in our mid teens....we had a level of responsibility that in effect made us young adults. And I think this has helped us all with dealing with the world that we now live in.

I personally know teachers who have quit their jobs because of all of the "parental involvement" in their children's lives. Parents trying to tell teachers how to educate their children and tell them what they (the parents) expect these teachers to teach their children. The teachers are the ones who went to school to learn how to educate.
Don't get me wrong....I feel the educational system has also been a big negative part of all of this as well. I feel that education in the primary school system has been "dummed down" a lot in the last 20-30 years and that the youth of today are not learning all they should. Then parents and employers should supplement those shortcomings.....but to completely hover and smother these kids is just plain wrong in my eyes. Without mistakes being made and without the chance of these kids to develop a tough skin either by being bullied or harassed by their classmates and or picked on and criticized by their teachers and their employers....these kids will become spoiled, unprepared adults that will not have the "emotional intelligence" to make it in the world of today and what will surly be a harder world tomorrow.

I fear that the kids of today do not have the same advantage as my generation and those prior to mine had. It shows every day wherever I look and in stories like the one below that I read.
And I feel sorry for them.

My main message here is to ask parents to "stop meddling" in their kid's day to day activities and give them some breathing room. Support them but do not smother them and try to direct their every move.

Instead of the "Hover generation", I would like to call for a change and call it the "smother generation"...at least until all of these parents can realize that all the "smothering" has to stop or be cut back a little....let the little birds try out their wings a bit before they leave the nest....not after!

And for those that are thinking "with the way things are in the world today...parents need to keep a closer eye on their children"....I say this:
Yes, please keep an eye on your children and give them guidance and direction and be involved in their lives.
But on the same hand, let them make decisions themselves and let them make their own mistakes the hard way. Otherwise they will never learn how to be truly independent in this ever changing world.
Involvement includes:
Being a positive role model.
Allowing your child to discover not only their strengths but to recognize and deal with their weaknesses in a constructive way.
Be a cheerleader when they do well but be a disciplinarian when they choose to do wrong.

But when you hover, you belittle their self-confidence and esteem.
These children no longer feel that they are capable or worthy of making their own decisions.
There's a big difference between protecting and stifling.

There is another article I pulled off the web that talks about this "Hover-Helicopter" Generation of parents. Another very interesting read which I think anyone who is a parent should read. Alot of good comments from other parents after the main article also.

U.S. Moves forward on effort to make "English" our "National Language"

I feel this article merrits some looking at.

The U.S. Senate voted on thursday to designate English as the "national language" saying it would promote national unity.

I guess this means that my efforts to promote "Pig Latin" as the national unifying language here in America is at an end.

Oh well. Time to brush up on my "inglich".....

When Osama Bin Ladin Was Tim Osman

I was going to post this on my "The World that is our Illusion" Blog (and I probably still will) but I felt the story was interesting enough to cross post on my regular blog here.

There is a lot of background info on all that is currently going on and as I have mentioned some of the many things many times before in my many posts that should get people to think a little , here is another one.

It seems that information has been uncovered which leads to credible thought that the "terrorist" who was responsible for bringing us the most "infamous" day of history for our nation had some pretty intense connections and travels through our great nation back in the 80s, and these connections and travels were sponsored courtesy of our Central Intelligence Agency.

My question here is, esp. after reading about Hayden and his views that he will let Americans know what he thinks they need to know is.....is all of this part of the many secret things that we DO NOT need to know about.
Well, I beg to differ.
And after reading the following missive, click on the next link that I brought up courtesy of Google with that name and there is an entire list of articles that talks about "Tim Osman" and his many connections. One can read between the lines and come up with a lot of interesting info that has been kept from the public at large.
Is this what we want our CIA and other intelligence gathering orginizations to hide from us???

Click on the link below to read the entire missive:

When Osama Bin Ladin Was Tim Osman

And shortly after the attacks on NYC, it was widely reported that Mr. Bin Ladin was treated for kidney problems at a U.S. Hospital in the UAE:
http://www.greenleft.org.au/back/2001/465/465p15.htm

And here are the google links to Tim Osman (aka Osama Bin Ladin):
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2005-26,GGLG:en&q=tim+osman

And you thought you knew all there was to know about this guy and his connections to our government.

And if the above is not enough, how about another interesting link to the current nominee to head our CIA-General Hayden...where the article talks about his knowledge of things that eventually led to the "arming" of Bin Ladin's little company of terrorists:
http://intelwire.egoplex.com/reports.html

Also a lot of scary information in that first article I linked to, about bio warefare techniques that frankly scared me a little bit. The whole concept of engineering bio-viruses that can attack a certain DNA profile of a person's genetic profile....and according to recent news reports, scientests have just completed sequencing the last part of the human genome......

The Day an Immigrant Refugee Can Say, 'I'm an American'

I think this article says quite a bit about the ongoing immigration debate currently rolling through congress and why I agree with President Bush and his latest suggestions for reforming immigration here in the U.S.

Sometime people seem to forget that America (The U.S.) was built by immigrants.
Even early America was populated by non-idiginous peoples,
(most people now believe that the native americans-indians-came from Asia at the time the Bearing Strait was still a land mass connecting our two continents) so to even think of closing our borders to people who are not citizens and who wish to come here to have a chance at a better life is completely opposite of what it means to be "an american".

We are indeed a nation of immigrants. Just because a lot of us were born in this country, a lot more of us were not.

I am only a 4th generation American myself (at least on one side) as my great grandfather on my mother's side came over to this country in the late 1800's as a young man from Germany.
And on my father's side I think it was maybe one generation earlier where my great great grandparents came from a part of what was then Poland.

Read the story below as reported by the New York Times and let the words sink in for a bit.

The Day an Immigrant Refugee Can Say, 'I'm an American' - New York Times

A good Friday to all.

CIA to move closer to "Orwellian Practices"...Gen. Hayden and...

....The New and Improved CIA???

I swear if this man becomes head of our nation's intelligence agency, the entire population is in for a never ending diluge of "disinformation" and "privacy intrusions" unlike any we have ever seen up to this moment.

I feel that his conformation will truly bring us competely and utterly into the era of "Big Brother Government" as depicted in the book 1984 and as written about in the many books out there that talk about the "One World Order".

A civillian agency run by a 4-star general who just happens to have recentley left one of the biggest and most secretice military agencys (NSA)....it just seems too convienent for words. And do not even begin to tell me that Rumsfield has nothing to do with restructuring of sorts....concpiracy indeed we say....

And doesn't anyone think he is just a bit "squirly looking"??
He kind of reminds me of Cl. Klink from the "Hogan's Hero's" TV series of the 60s.

Read these two paragraphs from the CNN website and then watch the video of him talking with lawmakers....

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Gen. Michael Hayden told senators Thursday that he would determine what the American public needs to know and what will remain secret if he is confirmed to take the reins of the embattled Central Intelligence Agency.

Before his confirmation hearing wrapped up for the day, Bush's pick to head the CIA took aim at the media, politicians and recent leaks emanating from the CIA and National Security Agency.

"True accountability is not served by inaccurate, harmful and illegal public disclosures," the 61-year-old Air Force general said. "I will draw a clear line between what we owe the American public by way of openness and what must remain secret in order for us to continue to do our jobs."

(Watch Hayden say why it's time to move on -- :40)

And another article gives a little more background on this guy who some say can be a real SOB if and when he wants to....

Get me out of this madhouse now... please!!!!!

More U.S. airports to monitor traveler behavior

Ok so here is another example of stuff the U.S. Government is doing that could very well backfire on it's population.

"Behavioral Profiling" is the term that the TSA is using. People who looked stressed, fearful or deceptive....but that the officers must be able to differentiate among those traits vs someone who is perhaps nervous about traveling in the first place. How are they to do that???

For the record, I am stressed about 90 percent of my life and esp. so when traveling. Will I be a target for being profiled because I am stressed and nervous???

I guarentee if anyone ever tries to pull me out of a line while I am waiting to board a train or an airplane...they will get kicked in the gonads....rest assured!

The article below, courtesy of CNN:
CNN.com - More U.S. airports to monitor traveler behavior - May 18, 2006

Now we "Shoot and Kill" people trying to get OUT of the U.S.???

I'm sorry but the following story is just plain crazy.
Maybe I am missing something but as you read it, please tell me if you feel that shooting and killing this guy was justified.I do not think it was.

The paragraph that really threw me for a loop was the following one which I am quoting here before the link to the rest of the story...courtesy of CNN:

"A motorist said that a federal agent rapped on the vehicle's window with his baton, but the driver accelerated and the agent opened fire."

What the heck??? So first we want to protect the boarder so illigal aliens can not get in...but when they want to get out, we shoot and kill the drivers????

Maybe we should equip our federal officers who are securing our borders with the same kind of technology we are equipping our forces with in Iraq such as this nifty little "Blinding Laser Device" that I read about a few mintues ago. They say it is non leathal and doesn't permantly blind people..though they don't seem to know how long the "incapacitiating effect" lasts:

'He doesn't get it'

The following story took me a bit "off guard" and actually shocked me a bit.

It seems that the senior republican representitive on the House Judiciary Commitee is going up against the "Commander in Chief", George W. Bush, in response to his plan for immigration reform as outlined in his prime time speech on monday evening.

And according to the article, the main thing that has him so riled is the fact that Bush is in essence offering "earned citizenship" for those illigal immigrants who have been in the country for a while.
He likens it to amnesty.

James Sensebnrenner is usually at the forefront in rallying to the President's and the Whitehouse's causes, so to see him so completely straying from that position is a little strange to me.

In a nutsehell, Sensenbrenner feels that Bush's plan isnt tough on enough on illigal aliens and he feels that Bush is offereing "amnesty" to the illigal's that are already in the country and that the plan as such goes against what the "house" crafted in their bill on illigal immigration.

A quote from the White house on the issue of amnesty:
The aide also took issue with Sensenbrenner's comments about amnesty.
"The president has repeatedly and forcefully rejected amnesty," White House spokesman Alex Conant said.
"Under the president's plan, you have to pay stiff fines, follow the law, stay employed, learn English, and after achieving all those things, you still go to the back of the line. That's not amnesty."

I clearly heard the president outline the above ways to deal with the illigal aliens myself, when viewing the president's speech on monday evening (see my post a few stories below) and as the quote above says.....it is clearly not "amnesty" that the president is offering. He is offering a way for this controversy to come to an end while trying to deal "effectively" with all sides of the issue.

I think (for once) that the president's proposal on this issues is positive and if all things go according to plan (which they rarely do though) that the immigrants who are both here and who wish to come to the United States in the future, follow the rules he outlined, then our country and the world at large will be in a much better position overall.
I applaud the president for his foreshight on this plan.

A "Once in a Century" Flood takes it's Toll-May 17, 2006

Well finally the rains have subsided for the people that have been endured this once in a century flooding of the New England area.

Homes, bridges, dams, roads, railroad embankments all washed away in different towns in New Hampshire and Mass.

Some say that all of this is part of "Global Warming" but others say it was just a freak of nature with a few different weather systems converging all at once to create this massive diluge.

The water is still pouring through the streets but according to the weather channel, the water is receeding slowly. Now comes the clean up and rebuilding of the more than 500 roads that were washed away and the numerous homes and buildings that were flooded.

My thoughts are with these folks out there in the East.

BlogShares - John's Crazy World (My Blog as part of a game?)

Ok so this is a little strange.

I just added a "search engine" to my blog (upper left hand side bar) and I decided to do a general web search of my site's name and I came across this link:
BlogShares - John's Crazy World

So as I read down the page, it SEEMS like there is an "online game" going on out there on the web, where people buy and sell web blogs. A link to the start page where one can join this game.
I will have to look into it and possibly join to see if there is any fun involved in it:
http://www.blogshares.com/

And a blog that talks about this little game:
http://blogshares.com/bs/

And to think that someone has mine in their "portfolio" as a part owner of my blog!

Too weird.
I guess I will have to look into this further to see what this "game" is all about. I gather it is all "fantasy" but hey, it looks like my blog is worth about $1,679.00 according to this game.

That is pretty cool, though I would have thought I could fetch at least $10,000.00 for my little piece of web real estate. There are blogs on this game that have posted values of over $6 Million.

It's A World Full Of Widgets/ Scrappy's Overnight Adventure

I came across this little post on "Widgets" while trolling the web this evening.

First a little background on my day for those that know me personally.
It is late and I can not sleep as my little roommate (Scrappy my cat) is currently spending an unexpected night in the country due to my apt. building being fumigated for "fruit flys" becuase of a not so tidy upstairs neighbor. (The spraying is not good for pets according to my landlord)

Scrappy was supossed to come home with me this evening after a short visit to my friend's house out in the boondocks but I let her roam through the house and she hid herself somewhere....I called out and searched for her for hours on end earlier and around 1030pm last night (tues), I gave up and made sure she had food and water and I drove back to town.

I guess it is a good thing that I didn't bring her home anyway as when I got here there was a message on my answering machine from my landlord saying that the cat shouldn't be in the apt. for at least a day.
Maybe Scrap's knew something I didn't.....but in any case I really miss my little fur ball.

Back to the post at hand.
"Widgets"... are little desktop applications that one can add to their computer systems that enhance the functionality of their computing experience. They can deliver information from either the web or from your computer. Some call them "gadgets" but they are all pretty much the same thing.

I have some installed that I grabbed from Yahoo, which is where my internet connection (in conjunction with SBC) comes from. Google also has "Google Desktop" which I have toyed with and Opera is planning on "gadgets" in their new browser.

Microsoft is planning on integrating these nifty little toys in it's upcoming new operating system called Vista as part of the "Sidebar".

And Apple Computer has a version in it's latest operating system Mac OS X 10.4 called "Dashboard".

The survey says what?

A "firestorm" of sorts is breweing in Port Washington Wisc. which is a community about an hour north of Racine.

What is the controversy all about?

As part of the "National Day of Silence" which trys to spread tolerance on "non-heterosexual people" (ie Homosexuals) two teachers allowed some students to pass around and then discuss a survey-questionare about "sexual orientation".

One of the many questions was "If you have never slept with someone of your same gender, then how do you know you wouldn't prefer it?"

About 400 of the 900 students in two social studies classes were asked to partake in the survery which was spnonsored by NY based "Gay-Lesbian-Straight Education Network".

Now some parents and school leaders are angry and some of the parents are calling for the teachers involved to be dicsiplined, one parent saying that it comes down to a form of "sexual harrasement" of the students.

I have to disagree wholeheartedly with that!!

To promote tolerance of others and get the message across that being different than the "norm" is ok is important and I feel that things like this should be taught in the shcools.

I applaud the students and the teachers who organized this survey and the ensuing discussions.

Maybe the students of Port Washington will be a little more tolerant and understanding of their fellow students, even if they are a little different, because of this.

I think we should be taught that "Dick and Jane" could also be Dick and John"......as far as sexual orientations goes....and that there is nothing wrong with that. Gay kids are at such a disadvantage, esp. in shcool.

Maybe things like this will lessen teen suicides and depression, a good deal of them being caused because these kids who are attracted to their same sex, because they feel harrassed themselves and if anyone remembers being picked on in high school...it is not a fun thing to have happen.

Again, I applaud the people responsible for this questionare being handed out to the students.

Florida may be loosing some of it's shine...but I plan on vacationing there...

I just finished reading an article (which I have linked to at the end of this post) that talks about a survey that was done a bit ago where people were asked to rate their favorite vacation spots in reference to California vs Florida.

Though the "Sunshine State" was still in the top percentile, it seems for the first time in 14 years that California has "outshined" it's southeast sister.

But I have a few reasons for making Florida one of my next vacation destinations:

(One could call this post a reminiscing of my 1994 Florida Vacation).

First, I have not been to that wonderful state since 1994. I remember that three week vacation with fond memories. I was living in Minneapolis at the time and it was still rather blustery up there in the "ice bucket metropolis".

The day I hopped my flight, it was about 32 degrees even though it was the middle of May already (are springs up there come late...), and it was still a little cool when I landed briefly in Detroit to hop on the other plane and join my two friends who were traveling from Green Bay.

When we landed in Fort Meyers, it was 80 degrees and I could already feel the humidity. And it felt great.
We got to the car rental area of the airport and we grabbed our Ford Mustang convertible (what other way to travel in the Sunshine State?) and hit the road for our vacation destination which was Sanibel Island which was across a causeway from Fort Meyers.

We had reserved rooms at a "Ramada Resort" , (which I think has been "rebranded and rennovated" as a Best Western: http://www.bwsanibel.com/ ....I think this was the property...almost positive!!)
on the island and as we pulled up to the hotel, we were immediately disappointed and we felt that this was a bad omen.
The "resort" looked like a series of "shacks" and a main building that had been there since God created that island.
We went around the back to check in and once we got to our rooms, as we opened them up, a overbearing smell of must or mildew hit us in the face. Right then and there one of my friends said...I am outa here!
I suggested we check out the rest of the property first and maybe there would be some redeeming quality to the hotel somewhere.
So we walked around and came upon an outdoor pool with a bar set by the side and all of this overlooked the ocean in the near distance. The scenery was actually very nice. At the moment I looked out at the ocean, I saw two dolphins jumping in the surf. Now that was cool!
They saw it also and from just that, we decided to give the place a chance.
Though it was not at all like the brochure described it, it was rather inexpensive and it seemed like there were quite a few people staying there....so we unpacked and got settled and then decided to drive around the island.

An afternoon of exploring the island and finding some neat little beach areas and some cool restaurants and we also drove over to the other island that attaches to that one called Marco or Captiva (I can't quite remember)Island. A lot of cool houses and more wonderful ocean views.

That night we decided to head into Fort Meyers to grab a bite to eat and explore that area as well as Fort Meyers Beach. We had a good dinner at some restaurant called "Beefsteak Charlies" where they had kareokee going on in the bar and then we were all so tired that we decided to go back to the hotel and crash for the evening as we wanted to get an early start to the day in the morning.

One of my friends woke up and there was a spider on his chest!
And I jumped out of bed and I stepped into the shower and accidentally stomped on what looked like a cockroach or a beetle...wasnt sure.
As one of my other friends was showering, the drain backed up and water went all over the bathroom and floated onto the carpet of the hotel room....arrg.
At that point we decided to check out and try to find another hotel for the rest of our stay. We were planning on making Florida our home for close to three weeks and wherever we stayed, we had planned to make one place our home base and then do day trips around the state.

So, we had a nice breakfast at the hotel dining room (the food was actually pretty good and the waitress who was close to 90 years old was so good I wanted to steal her and take her back to my restaurant in Minneapolis but she said it would be too cold for her...) and then checked out and drove back to the mainland to find another place to call home.

We ended finding a limited service hotel in Fort Meyers and because I worked for the company who had franchised this brand, we got a pretty good deal. It also had a smell of must or mildew...so we surmised that this must be the case for all hotels in Florida.
(If anyone can really tell me if this is the case, please let me know as I have been curious all these years!)
So, we settled in and decided to take a trip around town and we then went back over to the island and spent the day on the beach. It was my first time swimming in the ocean and it was so amazing. The surf, the sun, the sand on the beach, the boats out on the water in the distance.
We were all in a sort of "nirvana" and just layed and snoozed and walked along the seashore all day.
I ended up getting a pretty good burn but it felt good.
Around the middle of the afternoon we noticed something weird. As we were frolicking in the water, as we were heading back towards the shore, we noticed some jellyfish looking creatures swimming just below the water line. Later, when we asked about them, someone called them "Bats" and said that they come close to shore in the afternoons and when swimming one should "swoosh" their feet through the sand instead of walking or bouncing because these creatures have tails with ridges on them and if you step on one...it can go through your foot and cause not only tremendous pain, but a bit of damage to the foot in trying to remove it. Ikkes....so that was my education for that day.

We were all so exhausted from just being lazy all day that we ended up finding a seafood restaurant on the island, having a good dinner and then went back to the hotel to crash yet again.

I won't bore everyone with the whole three weeks of our travel experience but some of the highlights were our trip to Miami and spending the day on Miami Beach, a nice dinner at a very "gay" restaurant in Fort Lauderdale that Elizabeth Taylor has beeb known to frequent, a full day at Busch Gardens in Tampa and a lot of lazy days on Sanibel Island just getting as much sun as possible.
One highlight for me personally was an escorted tour by a local who I met on the beach in Sanibel.
He took a liking to me and adopted me as his personal best friend for the remainder of our stay (and he became my personal local tour guide) and on one day he took me for a drive to Naples. He had some pretty cool connections and through those connections, I ended up having dinner with some pretty wealthy people in a drop dead amazing mansion one night. I felt like a local and whenever my new friend would take me to all these little known places off the beaten paths, I knew that this vacation would be one that I would remember for years to come.

Unfort. one of my traveling buddies got sick on our last day in Florida and for him, the trip home wasn't the greatest. Somehow he had developed some pretty serious intestinal-stomach problems and we spent part of the day at the hospital and then we stayed close to him in the hotel room and tried to comfort him as he was in a lot of pain.
The flight home was quiet.
In Detroit, I bid my friends goodbye as they got on another plane to Green Bay and as I was waiting for my flight, which was delayed a few minutes, an announcement came across the loudspeaker system saying that our plane had to be diverted to another flight going to England and that we would have to wait for a replacement. (I guess there wasnt enough room on the original plane for those people flying across the pond or something).

So I waited for over 6 hours and finally a plane was delivered for us to get back to Minneapolis. It was one of those huge jumbos with the center row of seats and guess where I was stuck...you guessed it. Right in dead center. For those unfamiliar with dead center on one of these things.....there are two flight attendants that go down both sets of aisle ways. I seemed to get missed by both! All the time! And to get out to go the the bathroom.....I had to hop over 3 people on each side of me. I pretty much grumbled and moaned all the way back. Thank God it was only a few hours.

When I got home late that evening, I was actually so glad to see my room mate and though it was only in the low 40s....it was a low 40s that I was familiar with and that weather greeted me with a smile.

Second I have some family and friends that call that state home.
My aunt and uncle and their children all relocated down to the Tampa area a few years back and though I have seen a few of them in recent years when they were back in Wisconsin, I have always wanted to spend some time down there with them.
I also have some newer friends that I met through the hotel that I work at. I try to keep up with them through emails and such and one of them gets back to Racine every now and again for work reasons.
And now tonight I have just found out that one of my oldest and dearest friends in thre world, who used to be one of my room mates at different times through out my adult life, has just moved to the Tampa area. I knew he was seriously thinking about moving for quite some time but it came as a bit of a shock when he emailed me just a few minutes ago to let me know that he is down there in Brandon, which he says is a suburb of Tampa.

So.....Tampa and Southern Florida watch out.....Here comes Johnny!!!!

Oh and click on the link for the story from the St. Pete's Times online about the survey I mentioned in the beginning of this somewhat long post:

All Americans-One Nation Under God...Bush's Speech to the Nation

I may just start liking this guy after all....

I have to say that President Bush went "all out" tonight and said a lot of things that made sense. Rational is the word I think of when contemplating all he said.

He stressed that we are a nation of immigrants but that we are also a nation of laws and then he went on to cover five steps that he wants our country to take in dealing with this issue which has become a "hotbed" to say the least.

I just finished watching his speech to the nation that he gave at 8pm central time on national tv. I viewed the speech courtesy of a "CNN video feed" on my laptop here at the local Barns and Noble.

Click on the link below (if you have broadband) and part one and then parts two and three will respectively play in your browser window.
In case the videos do not play one after the other, I have linked to parts two and three the way CNN broke them apart.
This might be a good way to watch as some people need to "take Bush in short doses" (there I go again with my Bush bashing...shame on me):

Bush immigration speech, Part 1 (6:08)

Bush immigration speech, Part 2 (6:37)
Bush immigration speech, Part 3 (3:59)

For those that would like a recap of his speech without watching the video, I am looking for a version that someone may have transcribed and I will try to post it below:

And here it is:
Good evening. I have asked for a few minutes of your time to discuss a matter of national importance -- the reform of America's immigration system....(click on link below for entire transcript):

http://edition.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/05/15/bush.immigration.text/index.html

I was impressed by his candor and straightforwardness on all the issues he addressed.
He made it clear that those who have entered this country illegally must pay for their breaking of our laws and after that some of them (those who have been here a while and have contributed to society) will have a chance to assimilate into our nation as long as they follow certain rules.

He also made it clear that the "English" language must be learned and used, as this is the language that binds us all together.

He made clear remarks that we are truly a nation that has been created out of many different cultures and that this "melting pot" of sorts is what makes us the greatest nation on earth.

I won't say much more than this:
Tonight I am proud of our president and if he meant half of what he said, I think there is still some hope in this mad and crazy world that we all live in.

911 and Flight 93....What really happened in Cleveland on Sept 11, 2001?

I just came across this story and after reading it, I have so many questions.
But honestly I would probably be afraid to find out the answers.

And no, I still have not seen the movie of "Flight 93" but I plan to very soon.

After reading the following story from the "American Free Press", I am starting to connect more dots.
Some of how the government biggies are all connected and how if one starts reading between the lines of the stories that are "fed" to us via the big media outlets....one thing becomes very clear.
And that is that this world that we live in may really be a "Gigantic Illusion".

For instance did anyone know that Mike Chertoff, who was the attorney general back during 911 and who is now head of Homeland Security....is an Israeli National?? Neither did I.
And a few other strange facts emerge out of this story as well.

Read on for another interesting story that puts fourth an interesting theory on 911 and Flight 93
I will call this the "alternate version" of one of the chapters of that strange day.
And I didn't make this up, I just found it and thought it might be interesting for others to digest.
It is quite a long read, so you may want to grab a cup of coffee:

The Hollywood Fantasy of Flight 93 ...."The Hidden Role of NASA and the FBI in Cleveland "

'The AP story clearly reported that United had identified the plane that landed at Cleveland as Flight 93. Cleveland's Mayor Michael R. White reportedly said the plane had landed due to suspicion that it had a bomb aboard.

The most obvious problem with the official version that Flight 93 crashed at the site near Shanksville is that the photographs and eyewitness accounts describe a crater too small for a such a large plane to have crashed into. The crater at the reclaimed mine was less than 20 feet across and about 6 feet deep. Yet the official version claims that into this crater a Boeing 757 airliner supposedly buried itself, the passengers, the cargo, and thousands of gallons of jet fuel.

Nena Lensbouer, who had prepared lunch for the workers at the scrap yard overlooking the crash site, said she was the first person to reach the crater. Lensbouer said that the crater was five to six feet deep and smaller than the 24-foot trailer in her front yard. She described the sound as "an explosion, like an atomic bomb" â€" not a crash.

Somerset County Coroner Wallace Miller, who was one of the first people to arrive at the crash site, said it looked as if someone took a scrap truck, dug a 10-foot ditch and dumped trash into it. Miller said there was nothing visible of human remains and that it was as if the plane had "stopped and let the passengers off before it crashed." He said that the most eerie thing about the site was that he hadn't seen a "single drop of blood."'

My thoughts on this story:

And if "Flight 93" really was diverted to Cleaveland and something else was made to "crash" in that field in Pennsyvania.....then my biggest question is "Where are all of Flight 93's passengers???"

Ok so that is a little bit more of a deep thought than I really wanted to contemplate this late (or early) on a saturday evening.

I will have to do some digging into the AP report that the above story keeps quoting and see if I can try and put some of the pieces together.
But then again, maybe I should just forget that I read the above article for fear of being labeled a "conspiracy theorist"......but in a way I already am so I guess it is too late.

But what if??
A good Sunday to all

George Lutz of Amityville Horror Fame dead...

Remember "The Amityville Horror" movie (and book)??
Hopefully everyone has heard about it.....those that haven't are probably living under a rock somewhere.

One of the primary people involved in the most famous recent "hauntings"of a house in America has passed away.

I learned of his passing while listening to "Coast to Coast" on friday evening on my way home from work.
The last I had heard of Mr. Lutz was that he was in the process of suing the movie studio who did the remake of the original movie because, among other things, the producers promised him a "cut of the proceeds" from the revenues of the movie-which they supposedly backed out of and he also was suing the producers for libel as he claimed they potrayed him in a "bad light" in the remake, making him out to be a lunatic and a psychotic maniac.

I do not know how his lawsuit has been proceeding through California courts but I do remember hearing that he was having a very tough time of late.
He and his wife then divorced a bit after the events that gave the fodder for the book and subsequent movie that was made.

A little background on what I remember without digging into any web searches is that George Lutz and his wife Kathy and their children moved into an old Dutch Colonial House in Amityville, Long Island in New York State which they got for a "steal" due to the house not selling on the real estate market of the time.

If I remember the story correctly, the house had sat empty ever since a young man named Ronald Defoe went on a rampage and killed all the members of his family by shooting them all.
The killer was convicted of multiple murders and to this day is serving a life sentence in prison somewhere in the east.

So the Lutz family bought the old house and shortly after they moved in, strange things supposedly started happening to them and to the house. After 28 days of horrific hauntings, they left all of their possessions behind and ran from the house and from Amityville and never looked back....

supposedly I say because according to some people, the Lutz' conjured up the whole affair to get rich and sell a book with the help of Jay Ansen who authored the now famous "horror novel" turned into two movies.
Whatever the truth, it was a great book and the original movie was one that I remember that I enjoyed.

I think I was in high school when it came out around the late 70's, and though I did see the remake of a year or so ago, I feel that it was just a cheap and badly written retelling of the original story and I also have to say that if I was George Lutz, I also would have been very upset to be made out to be the "mad man" that this new version ended up potraying him as.

When I was out in NYC this last fall I had hoped to take a drive onto Long Island and try and find the famous house on Ocean Avenue. This was to be my Halloween experience but I ended up getting caught up in the annual Greenwich village Parade and by the time I made it out of the village, I was exhausted and just wanted to get back to my hotel in Brooklyn to rest for a bit. Then instead of trying to make my way around Long Island in the dark, I took the subway back into Manhattan and spent the evening wondering around Times Square and midtown Manhattan.
But I digress.....

I hope he rests in peace. He sounded like a very intense person and I would have considered it very cool if I had ever gotten the chance to meet him. His story has been a part of my memories since I was a very young man. I think that his book about the happenings on Long Island was the first paperback that I ever bought for myself....

And now that I have talked a bit about a man who no matter what the real truth of what happened to him was, here is a link to his personal website with a note from one of his friends that mentions his passing:
http://www.amityvillehorrortruth.com/

I just headed over there and and there are close to seven pages of condolences to his family and friends.
He sure did have an interesting life to say the least.

Bush Motorcade aims Assult Rifles at Floridians...

This breaking story just in.....
And this is very scary. How insecure is this president that his entourage has to point weapons at his citizens?
I was initialy contemplating not posting this...but I think as many people as possible need to know to what lengths these folks will go to "scare people".
And we don't think we are living in a police state?
Our commander in chief must think so......read on:

Bush Motorcade Aims Assault Rifles At Protesters In Florida

'We stood with about 50 others on rte 674 and when the motorcade came by there was assault rifle OUT the window pointing at ALL of us and the cars all looked like I remember seeing in the Hitler motorcades in the movies when I was a child, all boxy and black and one had the Pres seal and American flag on the sides. It was absolutely chilling!

I worked the inner city for 15 years with gangs and even with kids and families of the Bloods and Crips and have never had an assault rifle pointed my way. In my 75 years I have seen many Pres motorcades and shook many pres hands and seen many pres elects and their entourage but never anything like this with the motorcycles, big black cars and rifles were just the very last straw.
It wasn't the rifle that was scary it was knowing that this madman is so insecure and scared and psychotic that this is how he must travel. AARRRRRGH! USA, Banana Republic for sure.'

This is to be my last post for today.
A good saturday to all.

The U.S. President that History will probably see as a Dictator

The New Dictator is at it again.......

It just keeps getting better and better with all the crap that is going on with this administration.

Lies are being told on radio, on tv, and in the print media (see links below) and we are so close to being brought into a "full fledged dictatorship" that if you "sneeze" the current government will probably know about it.

And when one has a dictatorship in the works, you can pretty well bet that it's security and observation and intelligence forces will surly be in the news time and again. And this happening right now. It is one of the first steps to confuse and scare the public. I wouldn't doubt it if this administration leaked the "call probing" info to the press on purpose.....in order to set the stage for even more nefarious things to happen in the future.

What may these be?
Things I have blogged about in previous posts the last few years...
-Microchipping of it's citizens
-National ID Cards with biological info embedded into the cards
-Quaranteenes
-Unlawful arrests and seizures
-Suspension of individual rights
-Loss of freedom of speech
-Take overs of corporations to the national state
-loss of private land ownership
-Martial law on a widescale basis
The list could go on and on

The website below has some interesting info on what direction this nation is going since the inception of the "Patriot Act" after 911.

http://batr.org/gulag/062005.html

I saw quite a bit of strange things when I was in our biggest city this last fall..
-Arms wielding men and women walking around Grand Central Station....and these guns were not small. They looked like AK47s!
-When I was at the WTC Ruins, and I had stopped to record some video of the area, I was told by a police officer to keep moving because supossedly I coudnt stop on a PUBLIC sidewalk?? WTF???

I am sorry but this all starting to border on insane.
If I had the money to move somehwere else and renounce my citizinship to this whacked out country of ours, I would...but alas I do not so I guess I am stuck in this "gulag" for now....

I need to start digging into this latest Bush "confirmation" of Hayden to his "three ring circus".
I have a feeling that this man is more lethal to the safety and security of average americans than "Al-Queida" is.....

Welcome to Amerika..............
(My new byline I think...)

200 people killed in an oil pipeline blast and it's just another day in Nigeria?

Imagine sitting on a beach and enjoying a day in the African sun or driving along the water and then you are incinerated to death instantly because some vandal decided to puncture an oil pipeline running along the shore......

According to this news article from CNN , not even the head of the government in Nigeria offered condolances or outrage or anything even close to it....after finding out about a blast of an oil pipeline in Lagos, Nigeria which was caused by theives trying to steal oil by drilling into the pipeline....

CNN.com - Nigerians shrug offpipeline blast - May 13, 2006

Gas pipeline explodes, up to 200 die (2:20)
(For those with a broadband connection...watch the video of the aftermath)

This article made me sad. I guess when you live in a country where deaths due to various different circumstances happen on a regular basis, one becomes "hardened" to the fact that "it just happens".

I am glad that I can still have empathy when even one person is killed or dies for whatever reason....even if they were a killer who was executed for just cause. Or seeing a dead animal on the road....even that makes me sad...
But maybe that is just me.

The Ring of Fire.....Indonesia on the verge of another Natural Disaster

A volcano that is close to erupting and thousands of people in the process of being evacuated to safe distances.
Boy oh boy these folks sure do have some very wicked natural explosive events that they are living with.

(I sure am glad that all I have to think about is the occasional tornado or thunderstorm).

Alligator kills Florida jogger near canal - May 11, 2006

Are we enroaching on wildlife habitats to the point that not even our "pleasurable" hobbies such as jogging along a canal through a park are becoming a life threatening experience?

In the past few weeks, I have heard of a hiker in the mountains of Colorado being killed by a mountain lion and then a few weeks ago there was the bear that attacked the little girl in the south east and now this poor woman who was literally "eaten" alive by an alligator......

CNN.com - Alligator kills Florida jogger near canal - May 11, 2006

I have a feeling the answer is yes.

We have to realize that we do share this world with other creatures and the more we grow as a species, the more we start "moving" into those areas that are home to other animals.
So it should not be surprising when one of these animals tries to protect it's environment such as when what happened to this poor woman.

The authorities are saying they are looking for this gator and if it is caught it will be killed.
Why kill an animal who is doing what it naturally does?
It did not jump out of it's canal to go "jogger-stalking" did it???
Come on folks....we need to realize as I said above that we do indeed share this planet with other creatures great and small and we are all here and go about our lives in the way the nature intended.

My suggestion. When you are in an area where you know there could be wildlife, stay in pairs and keep an eye on your surroundings and be ready with some quick thinking.

Never in a million years would I go off trekking through a savanna in Africa without an escort or a guide and I do not think that I would ever take a walk alone along a canal in Florida where surly alligators are known to live......it is just common sense.

And though I do feel for this woman's loss......she should have been more careful.
