I have decided to reinvigorate my search for my family's history. I know a little but I want to know more. I feel that if one knows who there ancestors were, they can have a better sense of their own identity. So if anyone wants to help me in this long and arduous task...I will take all the help I can get.
Email me at jrepinski@wi.rr.com
I did find some interesting information while crawling the internet the last few days. My mother's maiden name is Dietz and that name goes back into antiquity in Europe and is even connected to the Royal Houses of Europe. So there may be some royal blood in my family line....In fact, as I was digging back along a certian line, it took me all the way to Charlamagne, a king and Holy Roman Emperor. Kind of cool. Alot of missing links in between though.
I also managed to find a "Coat of Arms" from that side of my family and some other interesting links from a site called Ancestory.com. Doing a bunch of Google searches also brought fourth quite a bit of interesting info. Unfort. I have not been able to find out much about my Repinski side of the family, other than the meaning of the name and where it supossedly originated from. This interesting info I got from one of those sites:
Name History and Origin for Repinski
Last Name: Repinski
Polish: probably a variant of Rzepinski, habitational name for someone from a place called Rzepin in Kielce voivodeship.
And:
Name History and Origin for Dietz
Last Name: Dietz
Dietz
German: from a short form of the personal name Dietrich.
And going to that name:
Dietrich
German: from the Germanic personal name Tederich (Theudoricus), composed of the elements theud ‘people’, ‘race’ + ric ‘power(ful)’, ‘rich’. This surname is common throughout central and eastern Europe, particularly in the western Slavic countries. The forename occurs in a wide variety of local forms, especially in northern Germany. It is cognate with Dutch Diederik (see Dederick).
And going to that name:
Dederick
Dutch: variant of Diederik, from a Germanic personal name composed of the elements theud ‘people’, ‘race’ + ric ‘power(ful)’, ‘rich’; cognate with High German Dietrich.
I know there are a few other names that connect to my lineage but I have to ask my dad and maybe some of my other family members for correct spellings ect..so I can find out more.
I know there are the names Dulac, Pope,Kosmeiter and a few others along my lines and more. This project will surly take alot of time but in the end I feel it will be worth so much...at least to me.
Happy Monday.....
My Old Blog (John's Crazy World) got hijacked so I had to create a new one..moving all of my previous posts to this blog....Arrg!

A Surprise at Work
So it seems the stars (at least on Thursday last) were looking down on me with favor.
We had our annual "Holiday Party" at work (The Racine Marriott Hotel) that evening and as they were announcing different awards and stuff...they came to the "Manager of the Year Award" and lo and behold-who's name was heard??? I have to say I was completely dumbfounded and did not expect it. But it was such an honor.
And I have to say I am so proud to work at this hotel. In my 20+years in this business (Food and beverage), I cant say that I have ever worked for a better company or a better team of people.
Now I just have to figure out a way for everyone to stop saying "Hello John...or is it Mr. Manager of the Year"........arrrrg.
Where does one go from there??? Manager of the decade?? Oh shit...I have hit the top of my career here! I hope that's not the kiss of death!!! Na...I have soo much to learn and so many opportunities even within this hotel. It is like a miniature city and so far I only really know how to run a part of it. I wouldn't know where to begin to check a guest into a room or how to shut off a leaking faucet in a guest room.
I just hope that I am lucky enough to be employed at this hotel come 10 years. I just passed year number six (6).....only four (4) more to go for that.
Happy Saturday

Frosty Kidnapped-Oompa Loompas-My Oh My!
It has been a rather quiet couple weeks here at the old "cave" and I havnt seen much or done much that has warranted any writing.
But this story caught my eye:
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/files/specials/videolineups/video_iframe.html?videoName=1215frosty_stolen&videoHeadline=Theft%20of%20Frosty%20the%20Snowman%20Caught%20on%20Tape
It seems that Frosty the Snowman was stolen from outside of a chocolate factory and it was all caught on tape. Now it seems the employees of the chocolate factory are picketing outside the factory, demanding Frosty's return. And get this.....they are dressed as "Oompa Loompas"!!
How funny is that? Where is Willie Wonka when you need him??
Happy Wed.......

Are You SAD??
Well here we are in the "dead" of winter. The tempuaratures are in the single digits and there is snow on the ground. The days are short. There is more darkness then light and lots of people have colds and some are battling little "flu bugs".
And then Nature comes along and gives some people S.A.D.
What is SAD?
SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) is a type of winter depression that affects an estimated half a million people every Winter between September and April, in particular during December, January and February.
It is caused by a biochemical imbalance in the hypothalamus due to the shortening of daylight hours and the lack of sunlight in winter.
For many people SAD is a seriously disabling illness, preventing them from functioning normally without continuous medical treatment.
For others, it is a mild but debilitating condition causing discomfort but not severe suffering. We call this subsyndromal SAD or 'winter blues.'
Are you sad?? I think I may be at times. But if so, mine is mild.
I find going to a tanning place and laying in one of those beds for 30 minutes helps. And allowing whatever sun there is out there to penetrate my little "cave". And keeping my blinds open as much as possible to see the outside.
Following is a link to some things people can do who experience S.A.D.

NASA Taking on Science Fiction...and with the Same Name!
This news article was kind of cool to read, esp after all the coverage of all the Tsunami Devestation and all the aweful weather and disasters out in California.
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/C/COMET_BUSTER?SITE=WIMIL&SECTION=HOME
There is a video also on this page that shows what "Deep Impact" will do once it hits the comet.
And a date of July 4th....how cool is that??
Next thing you know, the Goverment will FINALLY tell us that there is a huge gigantic "Mother Ship" hovering in space between the earth and the moon aka "Independence Day"!!
The world is so strange these days that absolutely nothing would suprise me anymore, including our goverment telling us that they have had contact with alien intelligence.
I often think that movies are a "precurser" to actual events and that the goverment has a big hand in the makings of these "spectacular moving pitcures" and that the reason for this is to "soften" the masses to what just may be going on that they subtly want us to know about. Just a thought......
What else do I have to think about??
Well, the other night I was sitting at my local Barns and Noble with my laptop, browsing the web on their highspeed internet WIFI and my laptop was starting to run low on "battery juice", so I went looking for an outlet to "plug into". What an adventure that was. I found two outlets and both of them had people sitting in front of them. One of the tables finally left and I moved my stuff over to the table where one of the outlets was...and plugged in.
I mentioned to the manager that they should seriously consider adding more outlets or running some extention cords through the store. They offer the "WIFI" service, as do many other places these days, but then trying to find an outlet to connect to is often very frustrating. And for those of you that have laptops will surly know, the battery power on most of these suckers doesnt last more than a few hours at most...and less if your running any intensive applications or programs.
So....an open call to all those operators offering wireless access to its custumers....PLEASE CONSIDER ADDING MORE OUTLETS FOR US.....THANK YOU!
Happy Wed. Everyone.

What is with all this Weird Weather??
I swear that everyday I read the news, the weather around the globe is just getting stranger and stranger....to wit....the following article:
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/S/STORM_RDP?SITE=WIMIL&SECTION=HOME
I mean, imagine the sight of that 2 year old kid being "yanked" from her mother's arms or that guy driving off the higwhay..just too damm weird.
And then all the other storms on top of that around the country. So far we here is Wisconsin have been realitivly untouched by most of this weird weather...thank goodness. But....what in the world is going on??
Maybe Art Bell is right. See below:
http://www.beyondcommunion.com/superstorm.html
I think this will be my next major read.
Happy Monday to all.

The Sky is Falling (Litterally).....And A friend's Awful Personal Loss
This would have been so cool to see, why do I always miss these things? Though I have seen quite a few "falling stars" which I guess are on the same order:

Meteor burns over northeast counties
Residents, officer report hearing sonic boom
By JESSE GARZAjgarza@journalsentinel.com
Posted: Jan. 4, 2005
An apparent meteor and accompanying sonic boom Tuesday evening over northeast Wisconsin prompted scores of telephone calls to law enforcement authorities, a Shawano County sheriff's sergeant said.
Sgt. Dennis Kleman said reports of the meteor sighting were made in Marinette, Menominee, Oconto, Langlade and Shawano counties between 6 and 6:15 p.m.
Kleman himself spotted the meteor while patrolling in the westbound lane of county Highway A about four miles west of Gresham, he said.
"It had a really bright tail," said Kleman, who noticed a bright flash in his windshield coming from the northeast.
"It came over the top of my squad. It didn't appear to be coming down. It went across," Kleman said. "It went toward the southwest and looked like it extinguished."
There were no reports of the object landing, but it is suspected of causing the sonic boom Kleman and others heard shortly after it flashed.
"It was well up in the sky," the deputy said. "It was just a matter of a second, then it went out."

I am also dedicating this post to one of my associates at work- Dia Wilson. She lost her 28 year old daughter on New Year's Day due to a terrible unfortunate accident in Kenosha. It is always hard to loose a loved one...I know...I lost my mother a few years back...but it must be esp. terrible when an accident happens and the loss is totally unexpected. My prayers and thoughts are with her and I have been thinking of her a lot over the last few days since I was told of her loss by my friend Doris.
"Dia...my thoughts are with you"....Love John
My energy after having had three days off and then back to work today, is all but gone...so it is time to rest and wind down from the day.
It is snowing outside right now and has been since yesterday afternoon. There is probably 3-4 inches on the ground and they are calling for a few more inches before all is said and done by Thursday afternoon. I tried making a snow man but the snow is just a little too light and fluffy.
Oh well...At least it is nice to look at...esp when you are inside in a nice warm cozy little cave....that I call "home".
Good night all.

Anyone have their New Year's Resolutions yet?
Happy 2005
Me neither. In fact I don't think I will make any this year.
Every year I try making resolutions for the new year and though my intentions are always good and I mean to work on all of them, I usually end up failing on most. So....this year I am deciding not to make any.
But....the ones from the past that have worked for me and that I have managed to make come true, I will continue.
So here is the list of things that I will continue to work on and be better at this new year:
-Keeping up on my personal journal. I have maintained a comprehensive journal now since the fall of 2001 and have tried to write something at least once a week. Looking back at some of the entries over the years is sometimes amusing, other times sad, and at other times..some of the entries just remind me of how boring my life can be at times.
-Giving my job 200% of my being. I figure if I try to give 200%, I will hopefully be able to make at least a 90% score in that area....and that is very important to me. I feel my parents gave me my "work ethic" and I am thankful to them for that (among other things). The one thing that I wish the "youth" of today had would be a good "work ethic". I do not see it all that often and I have had a lot of kids work for me through the years. I would have to say the % is probably 25% with a good work ethic and 75% with a "POOR" work ethic. How unfortunate....as these are the people that will someday be leading our world. I don't have a very good feeling about that. I just hope I am dead long before some waitress who cant show up for her shift 60% of the time..on time.....ends up being president of my country.
-Keeping a close circle of good friends and treating them with respect, love and caring. I have a small circle of friends..some that I talk to each day, others that I talk to maybe once a month. They are all very special to me and I don't know what I would do without any of them.
-Appreciate and love my family. I don't think I paid enough attention to my mom while she was alive and I regret that. She was the woman who had the biggest impact in my life and for the last few years of hers...I wasn't there as much as I should have been. So for the past few years I have tried to stay closer to my dad and his wife and to some degree my sisters and brothers-though they are on a different "plane" than me. My extended family as well mean a lot to me and I have tried to stay in closer contact with them (aunts, uncles, cousins)-but as with everyone, they all have their own families and are streched for time. But whenever I hear from one of my aunts or cousins...it surly makes my day.
-Keeping up on my bills. That is a rough one. I tend to fall behind every now and again (and I am sure I am not the only one there...hee hee) but overall I do get them mailed out at least 10 days "after" they are due!!
-Keeping my calendar and PIM (Personal Information Manager) current and updated and keeping my "To Do" lists current. This I do very well..though there are days I wish would just disappear some times.
Those are the important ones.
There is also the "keeping up of technology" so I can help or at least try to help my friends and family when their computers go wacky or they need help getting rid of the latest virus or spyware app that got loaded on their system.
So....happy new year. Welcome to 2005.
PS: Hi Jay....hope the blog didn't bore you too much.
