Why was there no ADHD when I was a kid??
Ok so I am a bit stumped and maybe some of my friends here can help me out. Am I imagining this or is this "ADHD" thing getting a little out of hand??
The first time I heard of this "Childhood Disorder" was when my nephew, who is in his late teens now, was diagnosed back in the mid nighties. I asked my sister "wtf" that was all about...
She went on to tell me that the teachers couldn't make him pay attention in school (during classes) and so they gave him this drug called "Ritalin", that in essence would make him "better pay attention" during said classes.
I thought then, and I still firmly believe that what this "disorder" really is (and always has been) is kids just being purly bored with the cirriculem of the classes they are in. The subject matter doesn't hold their attention for any length of time because it is not very interesting or the teachers are not going above and beyond to make it more interesting and inject some creativity into their lesson plans.
There have been studies done that indicate that the educational system and the knowledge overall that has been imparted to these kids has been intentionally "dumbed down", starting even before I was born. Who was in charge of this "Dumbing Down" of our educational system?
None other than our U.S. government!!
No wonder these kids can not pay attention in class. The DOE (Department Of Education) is fully to blame for this situation, and things are getting worse and worse.
The article below (see link at bottom of post) says that up to three million kids are afflicted with this disorder!! Thats alot of human children!
Come on, think about the whole thing for a second.
I am a child of the 70's and even back then some of the subject matter that was taught wasn't all that exciting...but at least my teachers "ad-libbed" and tried to make said subject matter a bit more interesting than what we were supossedly learning in the text books of the day. And I went to a "parochial" school for most of my early years and then I was pushed into the "public educational system come junior high.
But there was not ONE kid in my (or even near my) age group that was diagnosed with ADHD.
Does anyone even "really" know what the long term effects of these drugs are for these children??
Are we turning our children into "little zombies" that will not question authority figures? Are we intentionally "teaching" them false ideas and giving them a "slightly scewed" version of history and knowledge?
If that is the case, we probably arent succeeding on the first front of "questioning authority" as kids today are as unrespectful as they have ever been. There is not a whole lot of courtesy and manners that I see coming out of the past few generations or the current one at that.
(Just ask any teacher or anyone else who is in the trenches with these little monsters day in and day out).
Something is going on and I have a feeling that when we finally figure it all out, it will be too late. The children of today who are quickly becoming the adults (and future leaders) of tommorow are probably going to end up being some of the "least educated and knowledgeble" human beings in recent memory.
It seems to me that the current situation affecting our youth, in regard to this "epidemic of ADHD", is but one of the very odd things that someone has in store for our adolesent youths.
And a footnote of sorts: They now even have a classification of this disorder for adults called AADHD (Adult Attention Defecit Hyperacivity Disorder)!
Ok, so I have days where I don't want to pay attention to what I am supossed to be doing or learning or what I am told.....hey, I think I have AADHD!! Can I get one of those nifty little patches too??
That is my RANT for today.
Thanks for listening and as always...comments welcome.
A link to the latest on this growing "disorder" and the new FDA approved "patch" that will, for some of the lucky little ankle biters, be another alternative to their daily pills. Available in 10, 15,20, & 30 mlgrms. Wonder what the 30 mlgrm patch will do??? And I wonder what will happen if these kids decide to "share" their patches?
"Hey Jimmy...wanna try my ADHD patch?"
"Oh cool..thanks Tommy"..he puts on patch and two hours later has a convulsion!
You heard it here first.
