So the choo choo across the country was another trip I will not soon forget.
The scenery, the weather, the people, the train itself....everything was pretty close to perfect.
I am glad to be home though. Ninety some hours on a train can be just a bit tiring.
I spent the day relaxing and taking in some spring sunshine and getting ready to return to work on Tuesday (later today).
I will be posting my travel journal as well as many of the thousands of pictures I tool on my trip.
Stay tuned....
On another note.....I am sure everyone in Wisconsin has heard about the Forest Fire that roared through Adams County earlier this month. It seems that the guy who ACCIDENTLY started this fire, is from here in Racine and that the ASSANINE D.A. OFFICE in Adams County decided to charge him with a misdemenor that could lead to jail time, fines and civilain lawsuites.
http://www.jsonline.com/news/racine/may05/329152.asp
Come on now!! Clearly the fire was an accident and the guy did have a permit to burn whatever it is he was burning. I dont think that this should be considered a criminal matter. I honestly feel on this one that the "REDNECKED Adam's County D.A." has proven beyond a doubt that our legal system is totally f----d!!
The guy apologized..shouldnt that be enough...
That is my RANT for today.
Happy Tuesday
My Old Blog (John's Crazy World) got hijacked so I had to create a new one..moving all of my previous posts to this blog....Arrg!

I Think I can...I know I can! (A Choo Choo Trip)
Vacation plans have changed....
Some cash I was looking forward to didn't materialise so I had to figure out other options (Deja'vu from last year's Europe Fiasco come to mind) but being the ever recourceful person that I am, I decided to try to do something memorable instead of just sitting around being depressed about not being able to do exactly what I originally intended. So for $288.00 and some change......
.....Here is the new trip (which my Credit Card jsut paid for): I have always wanted to make it out to California (Colorado being the farthest west I have ever been) so here goes......... wish me luck!
-Tommorow afternoon (Tuesday the 24th) I will be leaving on an Amtrak Train from Chicago, called the "Southwest Chief" and take a very leisurly (43 hours) train trip across the southwestern U.S, going through Ill, Missouri,Kansas, SW Colorado, New Mexico,Arizona (right through the Grand Canyon's outer edge), and arriving in California (Los Angeles) a few days later on Thursday the 26th.
-After arriving in Los Angeles around 8AM in the morning on thursday, I have a few hours in L.A. to bop around and then its back on another train called the "Coast Starlight", an 11 hour trip up the Pacific Coast which will take me to San Fransisco, getting there in the middle to later evening just as the lights of the city are coming on.
I am going to stay overnight at a Marriott Hotel somewhere in the city (employee rate of 69.00 available at almost all the hotels in the city!!) and walk around a little and take in as much scenery (Fishermans Wharf, Castro Street, Golden Gate Park for sure) as I can in one night and then early the next morning on Friday the 27th....
-I have to Hop on another train called the "Capitol Corridor" that will take me to Sacramento to board my homebound train called the "California Zephyr", which is another 50 hour trip.
This train trip will take me through Northern Nevada and through Reno (I wonder if they will hear me in Rachel NV if I yell loud enough from the train....) and then into Utah, going through Salt Lake City and Provo and some National Parks and the Green River Valley and then into Colorado and across the majestic Rockies, into Denver and then Nebraska, Iowa and back to Illinois where I wll pick up the METRA back to Racine on Sunday afternoon on the 29th....wheew.
Though I will not be able to make it out to the Area 51 Celebration in Nevada that I so wanted to be at over the memorial day weekend, I WILL have a wonderful journey none the less. With so many scenic views (I have been reading up on the routes and the trains pass through so much of the country that is supossed to be totally awe inspiring) and alot of time to relax, I plan on reading a few of the many books I have laying around, writing in my journal, watching the country, sleeping, watching some movies on my laptop, maybe meet a few cool people on the train and just veg out.
I plan on taking lots of photos and writing a trip journal of sorts about everything that happens while I am on my latest adventure.
I have to tie up some loose ends, finish packing my bags, visit a few good friends, and drop off my little girl (Scrappy) over to Robyns yet today and then its off to the "Heatwave" of the west. I just saw in the news that Arizona, Southern Nevada and California are in the 100s right now...hopefully it will have cooled off a bit by the time I get out there.
Happy Monday....

Vacation Time...One more Day to go.....
One more day till my spring vacation.
My plans have changed a bit over the course of the last few days.
I have decided not to drive out west this time, as gas out on the west coast is unbeleivably alot higher than around here in the midwest, which would have added another 200.00 minimum to the cost of said trip, plus a loan I was counting on didnt come through as expected.....so......I am going to take a "Train Trip" instead, and hopefully see alot of the good old USA that I wanted to on the road trip...from the comfort of an "Amtrak Lounge chair with a picture window".
The cost of the trip I have mapped out via the train is amazingly inexpensive and it will give me time to relax and rest and recharge my batteries.
The trip will also give me a chance to read some books that have been gathering dust on my bookshelves (the trip out is 44 hours, 17 hours on another leg, and 52 hours back home after spending a few days out in Nevada), and a chance to view some (from what I have heard)of the most amazing scenery that this nation has to offer....along the way.
I plan on taking my laptop and will write about my experiences and post them to my blog as internet wifi access becomes available here and there and am hoping to borrow my friend's nice digital camera to take as many photos as possible of all the vistas along the way and back which I then can include in my blog so everyone can see some of the things I am seeing. I am also bringing along some DVD movies and TV shows that I can pop into the laptop to watch if i get bored by the views....I doubt I will though.
Hopefully all works out where I will be leaving via the Choo Choo (the California Zephyr)sometime on tuesday, heading out west over the Plains, across the Rockies and into CA.
I would like to be out west by thursday or friday and do not know for sure where I am going to jump off, I may just play it by ear to see how I feel once I am on my way. Right now though, the plan is to disembark in Los Angles CA and rent a vehicle to drive to Nevada for the Memorial Day weekend to drive out to the Area 51 celebration in Rachel NV (see media release below all this barrage of useless info) which is in the high dessert about 2 hours northwest of Las Vegas....and then back to California for the return trip home...up the West Coast to Portland Oregon on one train and then to embark on another train called the "Empire Builder" in Portland and a 50 some hour trip back home via Oregon, Idaho, Montanna, the Dakotas, Minn and back into Wisconsin. I am going to play with the Amtrak site a bit more in a few minutes to see how much more money I can save and what the best route will be.....and good times for my traveling...
Stay tuned for more definitive updates yet this weekend and starting early in the week (hopefully) some trip reports via my blog here.
Hope this post also finds my friends the "Minor's" having a good weekend. Thanks for all the info on things in and around Vegas. I appreciate it.....
PS: What's with the weird news story about Sadam and his underwear (tune in to CNN Headline news for more)..doesnt the News Media have any better stories to report??? I just dont get it....hmmmmm. Oh well.
Happy Saturday....

Area 51 celebrates its 50th Anniversary - public gathering on May 27, 28 and 29
PRESS RELEASE - May 20, 2005
Marking the 50th Anniversary of "the operating base near Groom Lake" (official name of the popularly known Area 51 base), several celebrations are being held this month in various locations. The construction of this sprawling aerospace complex in Nevada, the world's most well-known but misunderstood "secret base", began in the month of May of 1955.
Some of the"official" celebrations, closed to the public, were already held at the base itself.
Other "private" celebrations also were already held at diverse aerospace facilities both in Nevada and in Southern California, including the Air Force Flight Test Center at Edwards Air Force Base, whose Detachment 3 operations are said to be tied in with the Nevada base.
Aside from these private gatherings, there will be a "public" celebration marking the Golden Anniversary of Area 51. On Saturday, May 28, 2005 a public gathering will be held adjacent to the eastern boundary of the base alongside Groom Lake Rd. and will be headed by Joerg Arnu, webmaster of Area 51 - The Dreamland Resort, the world's largest online source of information on Area 51.
Supporters and "aficionados" of Area 51, including military aviation enthusiasts, are expected to celebrate outside the eastern boundary of the base with a camp-out, barbecue and live music entertainment along with various speakers. A mini-stage will be set up at the site.
According to Arnu, May 28 was selected because it coincides with the Memorial Day weekend and thus it would be easier for the public to make it to the celebrations. Some participants will begin to arrive at the site in the late afternoon on Friday, May 27. The celebrations will continue throughout the weekend.
Some of the news media will be present at the event and the BLM Rangers (Bureau of Land Management) are also expected to participate by helping with the coordination of parking and other logistics needed to make the event safe and successful.
Those who wish to attend this event should go to: Area 51 -50th Anniversary Campout Celebration
For the past 16 years or so, Area 51 has been popularly and erroneously (and "conveniently", according to some theorists) associated with false rumors of "alien technology" and conspiracies.
Norio Hayakawa ( Civilian Intelligence Operations ), a supporter of the importance and necessity of this vital base for our national defense, states that "the operating base near Groom Lake" is a real aerospace complex which was originally not intended to be established as a top-secret, classified base. (go to the bottom link to read the excellent article on this by aerospace historian, Peter Merlin).
According to Hayakawa, it only became a "secret base" mainly through paranoia resulting from false rumors which began circulating in the late 80s and persisted throughout the mid 90s.
Area 51 today is a vibrant aerospace R & D conglomerate test base, employing anywhere from 1800 to 2400 defense contractor employees, working in shifts on diversified projects. Some of the contractors include Raytheon, Lockheed, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, TRW, E.G. & G. and General Atomics.
One of the best recent color satellite photos of the base was taken on Thursday, July 24, 2003: Color Satelllite Photo of Area 51 taken on Thursday, July 24, 2003
Finally, perhaps the best history of Area 51 was recently compiled by Peter Merlin, an aerospace historian who resides near Edwards Air Force Base in California:
Area 51 Was Never A Secret, Classified Base.

A Prayer for one of my Uncles
I was just informed a bit ago by my folks that one of my uncles (My dad's brother)....Richard, suffered a very serious stroke a few days ago. I guess it is pretty serious and the stroke has caused a blood clot on his brain that can not be operated on as of now.
He is in intensive care in a hospital in Marshfield Wis.
So if anyone beleives in the power of prayer, now is the time to pray for this man, whose life is hanging by a thread as I write this.
My thoughts are with him and though I have not prayed for much in the last few years, I have said a special prayer for him, in hopes that he will recover from this terrible tragedy that has befallen him...and the rest of our family.

Road Trip Nears-Get ready for Trip updates
I received another email from the "team" who is putting on the celebration out in Nevada today.
A few more days and it's "Road trip" time. I just hope the price of gas stays at where it is. Reports from the west are saying that the "per gallon cost" is about 25 cents higher than here in Wisconsin....ouch.
Oh well.
A few things to do yet to get ready. My road atlas from 2004 needs to be replaced by a newer 2005 model and of course a good compas will be needed to navigate the open roads out west.
Anyone have one of those fancy GPS things I can borrow for a few weeks???
Copy of last email I received, follows:

Dear john,
As promised in our last email, here are the directions to the camp site. From Las Vegas, follow these instructions to the beginning of Groom Lake Road:
http://www.dreamlandresort.com/maps/directions.html
Turn right onto Groom Lake Road, and follow it for about 13.6 miles to our marked camp site on the right. Please be sure not to park on the south (left) side of Groom Lake Road.
And please do not park or camp within the marked area around the stage.
The GPS coordinates of our camp site are approximately N37°21.00' W115°38.57'.
Due to the huge interest in our event, some people will have to camp in alternate locations.
Some good camping spots are:- Gravel parking area south of Hwy 375, at mile marker LN 32.3. (N37°25.931' W115°26.689')- Black Mailbox at Hwy 375 mile marker LN 29.6 (N37°27.432' W115°28.962')- Campfire Hill, north of Groom Lake Road (11.5 miles from Hwy 375 turnoff) (N37°21.03' W115°36.27')- Camp site south of Groom Lake Road (11 miles from Hwy 375 turnoff) (N37°21.20' W115°35.66')
This map of Tikaboo Valley may be helpful:

Please note: Groups of 6 or more adults need to contact us in advance to make arrangements. And finally a reminder that everyone will need to bring all supplies (food, water, BBQ etc.)
There are several gas stations and stores on Craig Road in North Las Vegas, off I-15.
There is also a (slightly more expensive) grocery store and gas station in Alamo.
And one last note: This event is free for everyone to attend. However, your donations to help cover some of our considerable cost are much appreciated. We suggest donations in $5 increments, using the PayPal button at the bottom of our main page. You can also mail a check, payable to "Joerg Arnu", to "Dreamland Resort, HC 61, Box 77, Rachel, NV 89001".

Our wonderful president??
So I have been reading about a few things going on in Washington with the Bush Administration a the last few days and though most of the stories are "buried" in obscure websites (The Mainstream Media is probably too afraid to piss Bush off), there are quite a few articles that really seem to shed some very negative light on this "Oh so Holy" administration.....
I wont go into any details at this time except to post this little "ditty" I found an a website a few minutes ago.
And this is who is leading our nation???

A Massive Forest Fire close to my Home Town
It seems nature has wreaked havoc on the area of "Big Flats" in Centrel Wis. (about 25 south of where I grew up...Wisconsin Rapids).
The news stories are saying thousands of acres were burnt to the ground as well as hundreds of homes lost to the flames.
I remember a fire back in the 70s in the Adams County area (you can still see the charred trees on Hwy 13 going from Adams to Rapids) but I dont think it was nearly the size that this recent natural disaster ended up being.
Link to a video story from Milwaukee's TMJ4 follows:
http://www.jsonline.com/multimedia/multiplayer.asp?id=8895
Hope everyone has a good weekend (will be hard for all those people up there though I suppose)

I remember a fire back in the 70s in the Adams County area (you can still see the charred trees on Hwy 13 going from Adams to Rapids) but I dont think it was nearly the size that this recent natural disaster ended up being.

666 is actaully 616??
The infamous Mark of the Beast may not be the one everyone thinks.....
Here is a story that sheds some new light on the "Mark of the Beast"....and thank goodness.
Most of my I.Ds (all of them in fact- Social Security Card, driver's licence, my credit cards) have "666" embedded in parts of the numbers.
I havnt shaved my head to see if the numbers are there though......
Can I breathe a sigh of relief now??
Read on.....

The Truth Behind the Ominous 666
02-May-2005
Tom Anderson writes in the Independent that 666 is NOT the "number of the beast"—that's actually 616.
A newly discovered fragment of the book of Revelation, from the oldest copy of the New Testament that's ever been found, has been deciphered, and theologian David Parker says the number was mistakenly translated as 666.
666 is an example of the Hebrew habit of assigning numbers to people's names. Revelation, instead of being a prophecy of future events, was actually a book written in code, so as not to get the writers in trouble with the Roman censors. 616 (formerly 666) refers to the Emperor Caligula, not to the "antichrist."
Other mistranslations in the Bible occurred when the King James version was first translated into Enlgish from the original Hebrew and ancient Greek texts. "Thou shall not suffer (allow) a witch to live" was actually "Thou shall not allow a poisoner to live." The "Red Sea," where Moses parted the waves to allow the Jews to escape the Egyptians, was actually the "Reed Sea," probably a marsh. This conjures up images of the Jews getting away from the pursuing Egyptians on foot by stepping on the plants that grow in marshy conditions, while the Egyptians, with their high technology (for that time) chariots, became trapped in the muck.
The King James version of the Bible was translated into English in the early 17th century, the same era in which Shakespeare wrote his plays. Those who wish to make a literal interpretation of the Bible should realize that if they can't easily comprehend Shakespeare's language, they won't readily understand the King James Bible either.

WTF....North Korea shooting of Missiles in the Pacific? Is this the start of another Cold War or...
......Worse yet, another "Cuban Missile Crisis"??
I am catching up on the days events, and I just finished posting further down in the blog about Bush and his moronic idea to fix Social Security and then..... I come across news stories about Little kid North Korea" trying to "get the goat" of "Daddy Bush" by playing with some "Big Boy toys".....
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/J/JAPAN_NORTH_KOREA?SITE=WIMIL&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT
........It seems that North Korea fired a short range missile today (5/1/05) into the Sea of Japan...It seems that they are just fueling the fire as they shoot missiles near Japan, back out of the six-nation Nuclear talks, shutdown nuclear plants so they can have it focus more on uranium enrichement....ikes!! Thank god they were NOT nuclear.
But if they ever do get that capability (and I am sure it is just a matter of time) and we do what is outlined in the draft of a "Nuclear strike Resolution".....

http://washingtontimes.com/upi-breaking/20050501-033240-5837r.htm
.......written by the U.S. Government, we might not have to worry about Bush hijacking Social Security after all. If there is a preemptive strike, we will all be dead anyway.
From the tone of the draft mentioned above, it seems that the US is indeed preparing for a possible confrontation with certain countries. In particular, this doctine seems to be addressing the North Korean nuclear weapon issue. The paper specifically mentions outfitting submarines whose port of call is in Japan. Another point to mention is that the doctrine calls for preemptive nuclear strikes on potentially overwhelming conventional forces. The only country I can think of with such is China. A new era seems to be dawning on foreign policy in the Asian region.
I think I will go to Manards on my next day off and stock up on plastic sheeting and duct tape....ah never mind....it wouldn't do any good.
But the Fireworks sure would be spectacular!!
What a "Crazy World" we all live in ha??

Whats up with Bush's Stupid Social Security Plan?
So a few nights ago President Bush talked about cutting Social Security benefits for “people who are better off.” Who are these people?
Bush adopted a proposal created by a guy named Richard Posen called “progressive price indexing.” That proposal would cut benefits for everyone except “the bottom 30 percent of earners, or those who make less than about $20,000 currently.”
So now people who “are better off” are defined as anyone earning over $20,000 a year.
This is a dramatic change from the rhetoric Bush used to promote his tax cuts.
A 3/8/01 White House fact sheet entitled “President’s Tax Relief Plan Gives Greatest Relief to Lowest Income Taxpayers,” touts that the “share of income taxes paid is reduced for all income groups below $100,000 in income.”
So to sell his tax cuts, Bush implied that anything under $100,000 was “low income.” Now, to sell his Social Security package, anything over $20,000 is “better off.”
Well folks, I guess depending which way you look at it, I am either slightly better then "better off" or way "very very low income"!! Please help! I am confused....
