As Classrooms Go Digital, Textbooks May Become History

I figured it was just a matter of time until I saw this headline. The classic textbook is nearing the end of it's life. Soon you will probably see the "Textbook" in the list of items that kids of the next generation will not remember along with VHS, Analog TV and many other things that I (and alot of others) grew up with.
So the kids of today and tommorow will miss the experience of taking a paper shopping bag and making it into a cover for their books (which most in my generation did quite often), writing on them to make those course books that all of our peers carried, just a bit more individualised than our friend's books.
And they will miss looking at the front "sign in page" of the books to see who the prior "owners" may have been (secretly hoping that the book that they called their own was either one of their "siblings" or a school hero that they admired from the previous year or so....
I have to admit that I have not seen an episode of the 70's iconic cartoon series "The Jetsons" in quite a while, but I wonder if the people who created that series, forsaw the demise of this venerable institution as they potrayed Elroy leaving for school in the morning??

To think that just 30 years ago....the very item (computers) that are taking their place in the classroom, did not even exist in my vocabulary. How fast the world changes.

Read on for more on the demise of the quitisential classroom textbook.....
