So...this weekend brought the "Kerry-Edwards Presidential Campaign" to Racine Wisconsin.
And I got to be a small part of it...and it was quite cool.
It started with finding out last Week that Senator Edwards would be stopping in Milwaukee and Racine over the weekend doing some campaigning for their "2004 Presidential Election campaign".
See this web page for more info if interested: http://www.jsonline.com/news/metro/aug04/253278.asp
With the "town hall meeting being held in Racine this morning, he ended up staying at the hotel where I work last night. His campaign staff had been there in advance since thursday, doing all the preplanning and I got to talk with one of his campaign staffers throughout the weekend which was an interesting experience to say the least.
Last night (Sunday) was the hectic day at work, with the U.S. Secret Service decending on the hotel making sure that all was in order for "Edward's arrival in the evening to the hotel. As soon as he got here, he decided to come down to my restaurant to eat dinner. As he arrived, I was locked into the "campaign staff headquarters Staff Suite" for 10 minutes, as I had been in the hallway trying to deliver some sandwiches for the campaign staff at the time. A soon as I was allowed to exit, I was told via radio that "the Senator" was down in my restaurant....so......as I am standing in the guest hallway with my GM, I turned tail and RAN back to my restaurant to greet him and make sure that all was in order.
He had an enjoyable dinner with a few people, I was on my server that was taking care of him like flies on shit and everything went terrific. On his way out, he shook my hand (along with a few of my staff's and said thank you for a very nice dinner and walked back to his suite.
The remainder of the evening was spent dealing with his staff's food requirements, the News press who was also staying at the hotel and the Secret Service. The other highlights of my evening were getting "pinned" by the Secret Service so I could move about the area where Edwards was and around 11:00 pm when I went down to the room where the Secret Service had their "command headquarters" to refresh the room...one of the Secret Service Guys thanked me for the great attention that was paid to them by my staff and the he gave me a "Secret Service Badge" (though it was a very minaturized version....it was still the coolest thing I have received in a while.)
I am now up early this morning as I have been invited to attend a "GoodBye" staff rally at the hotel before Edwards goes to do his "Town Hall Meeting" here in Racine. I guess we are to get our photo taken with him in front of the hotel. So its offf to shower and get ready to go into work on my day off yet once again.....hell..I may even ask for an autograph!!
This is the closest I have ever come to a "presidential campaign and it has been quite an interesting experience.
One question?? Do I have to vote for these guys now???
My Old Blog (John's Crazy World) got hijacked so I had to create a new one..moving all of my previous posts to this blog....Arrg!

Just a matter of time like I always thought..And sort of like the book I'm Reading now
And then tonight I came across this as I was browsing the web:
(I knew it was just a matter of time before one of our world governments decided to start "playing God....I just always presumed it would always be the good old U.S.A.) I guess you just never know. The beginning of the end?? You tell me.....

Japan Approves Limited Human Cloning
AFP
More Cloning Ahead?
June 23, 2004 — A Japanese government advisory panel on Wednesday approved a policy to allow researchers to create cloned human embryos for research, but under strict rules, an official said.
The 21-member bioethics subcommittee decided to include the recommendation for human cell cloning for basic research when proper conditions are met, for instance, the creation of a government system to evaluate research.
Japan outlaws human cloning, a criminal offense punishable by up to 10 years in prison, but the law allows the use of human embryos or cells for research purposes under conditions strictly defined by the government.
The bioethics panel has been unable to decide on the issue due to a sharp disagreement among members.
At Wednesday's meeting, only 10 members supported limited human cloning while five were against it. The official said some of the remaining members were absent or decided not to vote.
Supporters for limited cloning say it could help treat diseases like cancer, liver disease and blood disorders, but opponents argue it could create an ethical minefield on the cutting edge of modern science.
Meanwhile, Britain on Wednesday began considering whether to approve the country's first-ever cloning of human embryos for a research team which would use stem cells to treat diabetes.
The human embryo cloning would be a first for Europe, after a technique was successfully announced in South Korea in February and followed shortly after by a similar breakthrough in the United States.
While "therapeutic cloning" is legal in Britain, this is the first official request to the government agency authorizing that research. Britain approved therapeutic cloning in 2002, but requires that each research project be licensed by the Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority.
It promises to spawn fresh debate about the ethics of artificially reproducing human genetic material for scientific and medical aims.
"If we don't do the research, and it does have the potential, then we are not only ignoring the needs of those who are alive now, but also all future generations as well," Alison Murdoch of the Newcastle Fertility Center told the BBC.
Murdoch and fellow researchers from the Stem Cell Group at Newcastle University, northern England, want to use the same technique as that which gave birth in 1997 to Dolly the sheep, the first mammal ever cloned from an adult cell.
But unlike that effort, the scientists say they will stop cloning before 14 days, when the stem cells are still only a tiny cluster.
"There is no theoretical chance to develop to this (reproductive) stage," said Miodrag Stojkovic from Newcastle's Institute of Human Genetics, who developed the technique under consideration.
"I don't see any need to do (reproductive cloning)... All serious scientists, they don't see any need, any benefit, from it," he told AFP.
The creation of embryonic stem cells through cloning was hailed by Murdoch as one of the "most exciting areas of medical development in many years".
Stem cells, because they can reproduce repeatedly and develop into different cell types, hold out the promise of repairing damaged tissue and providing future treatment for degenerative diseases such as Parkinson's or Alzheimer's.
Using Stojkovic's method, the Newcastle researchers are hoping to find ways to provide diabetic patients with "cells which will actually make insulin," Murdoch told the BBC.
Stojkovic said research had already shown that cloned embryonic stem cells could be used to treat Parkinson's disease in mice.
Their field of research, backed by advocates for millions of people suffering from incurable diseases, is regularly denounced by a host of conservative and religious groups that argue scientists are destroying human life in the course of their experiments.

Interesting story to say the least. For research now they say, yes, but who knows what will happen in a few years as someone lets these "fetuses" grown into babies who can (and probably will) thus grow into adults.
Makes me think of exactly what "theoretically" happened as outlined in the book I am currently undertaking called "The 12th Planet". The basic understanding behind this book is that mankind was helped along in its "evolution" by an "advanced race of beings" that decided to "clone bits and pieces of their own DNA with early human DNA" thus resulting in "man" the way he has been for thousands and thousands of years.
A brief sypnosis of the book:
Over the years, startling evidence has been unearthed, challenging established notions of the origins of Earth and life on it, and suggests the existence of a superior race of beings who once inhabited our world. The product of thirty years of intensive research, THE 12TH PLANET is the first book in Zecharia Sitchin's prophetic Earth Chronicles series -- a revolutionary body of work that offers indisputable documentary proof of humanity's "Godlike" forefathers.Travelers from the stars, they arrived eons ago, and planted the genetic seed that would ultimately blossom into a remarkable species...called Man. They actually co-mingled their DNA with our ancient "Neanderthal DNA" in a form of genetic cloning, and thus brought about Homo Sapiens.....Man.
A different and enlightened view of human origins and human history? In the 12th Planet, Zecharia Sitchin has presented an astoundingly strong case for "Godlike" intervention in the creation of the human race.
From this book I can only conclude that everything I have been tought to believe is wrong- from both religious and mainstream academic sources. A "god" did create man in his own image, only he was a flesh and blood resident of our own solar system who looks just like us. Many people will be disturbed to find that humans are merely a genetically engineered hybrid race of primitive workers. I certainly was when I first realized it was true. However, the story of our origins is a fascinating and humbling one which I believe is required reading. Especially when you realize that our creators will be back. The bible tells us so...
If anyone feels like borrowing this truly "Eye opening" book, I would be glad to lend it out as soon as I am finished. I have a few other books by this author..all very eye opening as well.
